December 28, 2012: Quiet Girls

My daughters are having a sleepover with two girls (siblings) from the area, and I can't believe how quiet they are. These were some good friends for the Milklings to make.

    1. I went to that one show there over the last ten years, and I can't say that the venue seemed to need continued existence.

    1. I've (indirectly) run into this problem with a cemetery near Beaumont, TX where some ancestors of my wife are buried, many residents of the area before Texas even became a state. It's in a copse of trees in the middle of a pasture owned by a some corporate entity, and getting permission for anyone to go there is a pain.

    2. Near Peterson, MN, where I grew up, a farmer my dad worked for found three gravestones in a small grove of trees he was clearing, right next to the Root River. No one even knew it was there, as far as he could find out.

    1. What what?

This place will always be yours, Boss. Just in the way that children and grandchildren are yours -- you can't control everything they do, but your DNA is all over the place.

      1. I will still be here. I just felt that I wanted to express myself in a manner that might not comport with the WGOM, so I created a new forum. First, stop at the WGOM, and then head over to SBGville for more crap.

  1. KTWN is going to be spending all day on New Years playing radio broadcasts of old Twins games, including a game from the 1965 World Series.

    1. That's pretty awesome. I'm sure they'll focus on "important" games, but I would love to hear Herb calling a random game here or there just to enjoy the beauty of every single. (Matt Capps excepted.)

That's the plan. RT @HGoethe: Do you know if K-TWIN will stream those online?

  2. I don't know that anyone is interested, but my big brother is filling in on the broadcast of a high school girls basketball game this afternoon. He's not a professional announcer, and he doesn't pretend to be, but I think he does a good job. If you want to listen, go here and click on the link to the women's basketball game that starts at 3:45.

    1. For some reason, the link didn't work. Go to agbluejays.com and click the link referred to above.

  3. A friend from Minnesota by way of Buffalo brought this home to me while visiting home. Has anybody had this one yet?

      1. That awful Voodoo Magic Bacon beer left a bad taste in my mouth, quite literally. The smoke on this beer is much more mellow.

        1. The problem with that awful bacon beer was the smoke was permeated through every single part of the drink. You get a little smoke on the nose with the Surly followed by a smooth mouth feel with notes of figs and malts. It reminds me a little bit of Tumbler with the initial mouth taste. Very brown-aley but with a nice smoke finish.

I can say this is the best smoked beer I have ever had. Then again the other one of the worst beer I have ever had my whole life.

One additional note, this beer was too hard to open. Let's drop the Makers Mark style wax top, okay Surly?

          1. Schell's had a limited-run Rauchbier that was very smoky.
They've also now got Chimneysweep, which is lightly smoked. I didn't think too much of it at first, not bad, but not worth the effort to track it down in its first week of release. All I could find was a 12-pack, and towards the end, it was all I wanted to drink. And now I'm out (wait, I should double-check... still out). Very drinkable.

          1. I was going to say that anything that includes the words Voodoo Magic leaves a bad taste in my mouth.

    1. Oh balls yes.

I was fortunate enough to be able try some at the Great Taste of the Midwest this summer and good lord, your friend has done god's work here.

    2. Speaking of things that are awesom, now that I work in Illinois, I have access to some beers I can't in in Wisconsin, like this and this, and just for fun, when I got back to WI, I picked up a sixer of this for the weekend.

      1. Alesmith rocks.
I was at a brewpub today. They were pouring guest beers - a blend of Lagunitas Brown Shugga and Hop Stupid. It was brilliant.

        1. Also, my friend took me to a Mexican grocery for lunch. They have a lunch counter/deli. Bitchincarnitas, el pastor and lengua tacos. Yumm.

        1. Yep, but the analyst - and I'm not a huge homer - is super condescending. And also says downhill WAY too much.

But my favorite was their confusion over what would happen if the overruled the TT touchdown just now. Wait a minute, what about the penalty???

I guess with eleventy bowls in the next few days they're pretty deep into the bench.

    1. I think the Gophers defense all year has been slightly above average.
but the last half of the B1G season, the offense did nothing and the D was gassed by the 3rd quarter.

  4. the coaches lost that game when they started to pass in the 4th quarter instead of gaining the 4-5 yards per rush they had been getting

  5. Hmm. I showed up today but there's no CoC. I was thinking maybe I'd put one up, but when I went to try, everything made it look like I'd just be posting a normal post, not a fancy "sidebar only" post. Or does selecting CoC as the category take care of that?

At this point, it's too much work either way...
