    1. I'll sign up. No fantasy hockey experience. Or knowledge. But enough marginal interest in the sport to give it a try.

          1. Something to the effect that there aren't enough teams if all returning managers join, so I need to be invited to take over a team.

    2. oh, and i'm removing Penalty Minutes as a point category and adding Shorthanded Points in its place, unless anyone thinks something else should be there. possible categories:
      Points
      Penalty Minutes
      Powerplay Goals
      Powerplay Assists
      Shorthanded Goals
      Shorthanded Assists
      Game-Winning Goals
      Faceoffs Won
      Faceoffs Lost
      Hits
      Blocks

    3. I joined- it'll be interesting to see how knowing almost zero about hockey translates into a fantasy game.

      1. I joined too - I love hockey but I've never played fantasy hockey (or baseball! for that matter). Should make for an interesting season.

    1. i finally picked up prophet and have been listening to it the past week. gotta say, i think i like intuit better. at the very least, i like the songwriting better, but that's not to say i'm not enjoying prophet.

    1. I was hoping to get to point the google widget out, but hj* beat me to it by a solid hour+.

*What's up with the hand x-ray gravatar, hungry joe?

    1. So his last three years he was worth 1.6, 1.1, and 2.5 fWAR. Last year he would've been the second best starter behind Diamond. I don't know, if they can sign him for 2 years and under $15 million I guess it wouldn't be terrible. Though it would make the Correia signing even more of a head scratcher.

          1. I was concerned they'd give him 3/$30 million which would have made me rage. If he's not (significantly) overpaid, whatever.

      1. I had a hard time not consuming it.…………

What's new in terms of local / micro in b-town?

        1. I honestly don't know. I haven't really had a chance to get out and explore the brewing scene here. I'm sure The Hitman can offer some advice.

        1. Heh - I see what you did there.

Also, that HD Time Lapse video of the Earth at night from space made me catch my breath.

        2. Heh, nice.

My cousin works in the fields. When he was home for Christmas, he had hours and hours of stories of the life they have out there.

          It. Is. Insane.

            1. Specific examples are evading me at the moment, but just the complete "wild west" life out there is crazy. Workers getting lonely and snatching pets from lawns, 50-1 guy/girl ratio, just the type of stuff you'd expect when a smallish town gets a massive influx of mid-20's guys, most of whom have no set living conditions (my cousin has been living in an RV for over a year now) or plan for what they're going to be doing next month.

              1. I know last year someone was trying to get a ton of single women to go out for a "Party in the Patch." When I heard about it, I thought that this was probably the worst idea I could possibly imagine. I'm not sure whatever came of it, but I assume it didn't happen since I imagine it would not have gone well at all.

                    1. In this case, the male prostitute came to the location carrying a duffel bag, went into the bathroom and emerged wearing a wig, purple women’s lingerie, black fishnet stockings and sling back high heels.

It was the sling back high heels that gave him away - those are so last year.

    1. I have no idea what to think about that story, because none of the possible explanations make much sense to me.

  1. I was all pumped up for a Gophers basketball game tonight.
    They dont play until tomorrow

  2. Filed under "how cool is this?" -- here's Runner daughter with one of the five manatees that were in the water along the beach back of our hotel

She would pat one, and it would roll over and expose it's belly for scratching. Not much different than a huge aquatic dog.

  3. Jim Caple at the 4ltr:

Bo Jackson hit 25 home runs and stole 27 bases in 1988. He also rushed for 580 yards and caught nine passes for 79 more yards. He was the most amazing athlete I've ever seen on the baseball field. And six years later at age 31, his athletic career was over due to a hip injury caused by a tackle in football. Given the brain trauma we now see in the NFL, he might have been lucky that was the extent of his injuries.

Look, I'm against performance-enhancing drugs and wish they had never entered the game. But when people complain about the evils of steroids in baseball, I always shake my head and wonder: If we're really so damn concerned about the health of athletes, why do we let them play football?
