Since Saturday, I've gotten in two more workouts, putting me at six for the month starting on January 15th.
On Sunday at noon, my wife and I went to Simply Strength class. I had done pretty well on Friday, but this was Julie teaching and she has a way of humbling a fella. I felt pretty good about the upper body exercises. I think I'm making real progress there. In the abs, too, I feel progress. But, she did this exercise targeting the outer hip and I thought I was going to die. Wow, was that hard. I flat out could not do it. By the time the class got over, I was completely wiped out. But, in a good way. My muscles were fatigued, but not sore. This is the thing that I really like -- I feel like my muscles are getting worked, but I'm not overdoing it or injuring myself. So, that's good. Other than my pride, of course. My wife was hurting all day, too.
This morning, it was spinning class. Monday morning class is at 5:30. It was damned cold outside this AM, but there was no question I was going. I prepared by going to bed early (9PM) and I got up at 4:50. I was early for class, which allowed me to warm up. I could feel that I was maybe still a little spent from Sunday's workout, but I was there. When we started, the instructor Amy says, today is a strength building class. Oh, good. That meant a lot of high resistance work. My legs were not all that responsive today, but I did the best I could. By the end, I was really struggling, but I did all I could to push through to the end of the class. It was not my best performance ever, but I was happy that I could deny the voices inside of me that said, "Quit!"
Tomorrow may be a strength class day, it may not. To get in a strength class, I have to go over to Bloomington to a new gym. I want to do this, if for no other reason than to learn that place so that I can incorporate that class regularly.
Right now, my legs feel like they weigh 200 lbs. each. They are saying rest day tomorrow. We'll see who wins out. Maybe by this afternoon they'll be back in line and anyways, there will be 36 hours between workouts even if I go tomorrow.
New tumblr post - graphing the height and weight of the competition and where I fit in.
Oh, is this the thing you asked my help with? Or would you still welcome help with that?
No, this is different. And I figured that other thing out well enough. Thanks though.
I went to spinning this morning and the class was basically a long, long climb up a hill followed with sprints at the very end. About fifteen minutes in, my left knee was acting a little creaky. I kept peddling and pushed through and suddenly at about the twenty minute mark, I felt great. It was great to take advantage of a government holiday by getting in a strong ride.
Tripleta aqui - this boyo got up at 6 in Cambridge, went to a good spinning class at Cambridge Athletic Center (go Izzy, Danish spin-meister!); then Two-Bridges Run (Longfellow/Harvard (364.4 Smoots across) bridges (approx 3.7 mi); then later swim at my club in H'town (relaxing 1/3rd mile) hot-tub+sauna.
Nice!
