List day!
1. Last week I mentioned the beat I made (back in 1999 or 2000) combining James Brown and Iannis Xenakis. Well, here it is, for your listening and downloading pleasure. The James Brown and funky drumming is obviously from "Funky Drummer", and the strings and horns are from ST-X Ensemble's 1996 recording of "Kraanerg" (which was released on Asphodel).
1b. I believe this was all done in Pro Tools. One of my driving inspirations was trying to break the software.
1c. The version that I rapped Slick Rick's "Children's Story" over is the last 40 seconds or so on loop. I've found on cassette with my distorted vocal take on it. Not sure if or how I'll ever share it. I need to remember to never sing when there are people around me that could hear it.
1d. I do have a few more things that I did back then that I might like to share. Some is on another CD I have yet to find.
2. Off to see Soundgarden at the Orpheum Tomorrow night.
3. Local Group the Bad Bad Hats have a new EP out. I find it quite enjoyable, and the price can't be beat.
4. Earlier this week, Zack had me craving New Kingdom at a point where there was none on my iPod. Fixed that, but that first day was tough.

3. Oh yes I own a copy of this. It was recalled for this song, using an illegal sample of Gilbert O'Sullivan's "Alone Again (Naturally)."
No list, but I went to high school with this guy. We were actually really good friends for a long time but then, you know, life and such ensued. This song was an iTunes song of the week and is starting to get some play on the Current. I want to reach out to him and tell him I'm happy for him and what he's accomplished but I'm not sure how. Anyway, it's a really great song and hopefully I did the imbed thing correctly.

Nice. I think that, since you guys actually knew each other back when, just dropping him a message to say that you're really happy for him and what he's accomplished is cool. No need to offer any deeper connection or feel weird about it. Just come out and say it.
You're right. It's mostly me feeling weird about it, and that's my own hang up. Music is something we used to screw around with a lot. Or at least I was screwing around and he was busy becoming awesome.
can you write to him and tell him he's a traitor for wearing a Yankme hat?
i can think of about 5-6 kids i went to high school with that have achieved some level of notoriety in music (though i can't say i was good friends with any of them). i discovered another one of them last week: dessa.
Nice trax.
Room reminds me of my man space in the basement. Except for the sewing machines. Musical equipment. Band. Crowd. And no racks of beer.

Notes:
This time I worked off a playlist of songs I downloaded in the past year. Not a true sample of my total library, but a more accurate picture of what I actually listen to (though really, I still skip a few of these more often than not).
3. My introduction to this song was from a Veggietales movie that spoofs it with their song "Rock Monster." Gotta love the B-52's absurdity, right?
6. This song sounds like it's ripped from Buddy Holly's catalogue. Not exactly your typical Karen O.
8. I've said before that I started to really discover The Velvet Underground last year. This one might have been the one that pushed me over the edge.
10. As of right now, this song is fee on Amazon. And it's amazing. It took me no more than 2 listens to realize I loved it. Highly recommend.
B. I might even like this more than the original, which is absurd, right? But there it is.
Put me in the group that thinks Shat's version of Common People is better than Pulp's. In fact Shat's (and Joe Jackson) version is one of the greatest rock songs ever.
and Citizens mock my devotion to Our Greatest Living Thespian. He's a genius, I tell you. And I was on the bandwagon's earliest rides.
You're almost as hipster as Hungry Joe.
the bandwagon's earliest rides that would be the Constitution class right?
Getting your agreement on this actually makes me feel a lot better about my assessment.
*speechless
genius does tend to take one's breath away.
I want to re-call attention to "The John Wayne" being a free download, just in case people missed it. Song is awesome.

i seem to be a kind of reverse hipster, getting into things long after everyone else has. this week's example: just picked up neutral milk hotel's on avery island. it's pretty sweet so far.
#5 is one of my favorite songs for dancing around with my kids.
Also, being a reverse hipster is ironically cool, and therefore the most hipster you can be.
There's no song I like to sing more than "Freedom of '76." I do a fairly admirable job of matching Gener's falsetto if I do say so myself. I'm struggling to not sing it right now at my desk.

Always loved this song, didn't know the clip existed.
Anyone listen to my song/beat/musical thing?
