    1. Heh, when I clicked and read the headline, I just assugreyed that it would be about ESPN.

  1. Temple dominating at the half over NC State. Looks like all five A-10 teams will win their first game. The conference was extremely deep this year.

  2. I'll update Gideon's bracket, since mine is a disaster. He chose his by having each of his blocks represent a team.

He is at 13 out of 18 and has only lost one Sweet 16 team (St. Mary's). The highlight being that he picked Harvard, Oregon, Mississippi, and California.

His Final Four is Saint Louis, Kansas St., Minnesota, Indiana.

    1. was it literally a 50% chance each time? For completely random, that's not a bad final four.

      1. He had favorite blocks, but I removed the tiger that rattles because it was getting picked >80% of the time.

I put the 1 and 2 seeds through in the first round before letting him choose the others. That's as much as I tampered with things.

  3. yep

Left Ancient Aliens to check in on Wisconsin game. Yup ok back to the less statistically improbably show.— Ana Marie Cox (@anamariecox) March 22, 2013

  4. I dont know how much of the Crieghton/Cincy game I can watch since Cincy decided to wear Zubaz

    1. Bobby Lutz is a NC State assistant. Now I completely understand why the team underachieved all season. He was absolutely hilarious while at Charlotte bitching and whining and moaning about how the A10 was beneath him as his team consistently pissed away tons of talent.

    1. My 4-hour pass just expired. I'm thinking I may need to head home from work soon. The 4-hours just about did the job.

  5. Through 20 games, there are 30 perfect brackets on yahoo (out of 3.3 million). Including people who picked North Carolina, Cincinnati, and California as their champions.

      1. Yahoo down to 1 perfect bracket through 22 games, ESPN has 0.

The perfect bracket has high seed winning 8 of the remaining 10 except for Oklahoma (10 seed) and Villanova (9 seed).

            1. Yeah, I'm not predicting great things for either of these brackets, I'm thinking this will be their moment in the sun.

ESPN's has Notre Dame v. Michigan in the final.

  6. Kansas St decided to start playing and now down by 7 after being down 18 seven minutes ago.

  7. Illinois 50 Colorado 46
that was the score for 4:30 minutes
finally a free throw with a minute to go

    1. seriously. I played crappy pre-adolescent house basketball for years and shooting efficiency seemed better. I realize kids suck at defense, but sometimes they're less frustrating

  8. Colorado scored 4 points in the last 9:44
they havent scored since the 5:51 mark

strike that, they just hit a 3

  9. the Florida Gulf Coast jerseys look like either Tony Campbell era Timberwolves or it has some Hartford Whalers dna weaved in it.

  10. I really dig Northwestern State's style of play. Full court defense, super press offense. Line changes ever 3 minutes.

        1. Georgetown is using the Wisconsin playbook of jacking 3's in every possession without ever actually a) making them, or b) even trying to get inside.

          1. That was what Illinois was doing against Colorado for the first 12 minutes of the second half.

          2. Ugh. I hate that generally, so if that's what they're doing, they deserve to lose.

I notice from the box score that they must be fouling a lot too.

            1. Yes, they're playing lethargically, so they're fouling because they're always a half-step behind. The refs suddenly got whistle-happy and called four or five fouls on FGC in a minute just to even things up, and most of those were very ticky-tack compared to Georgetown's fouls.

  11. A10 is 6-0. Temple and Butler are bailing, but the other three teams are staying in the conference and are 3-0. Meanwhile, the Catholic 7 have a last-second win by Marquette over Davidson, Villanova getting smoked, and Georgetown getting beat. I can't stress enough: EFF Georgetown.

      1. I'm not quite sure I get this level of hate. You've got a perfectly acceptable D2 school across town... you should be happy with that!

        1. Well, I completely understand why Georgetown is too chickenshit to play either GW or Georgetown. If you can't handle Florida Gulf Coast, you're really going to struggle against A10 and ACC teams.

          1. There's nothing to gain by playing those teams, only things to lose. It's like eliminating the best survivor players first.

            1. imo, its poor sportsmanship to skip out on those teams that are so close you dont have to spend any money for travel.

Iowa plays UNI most every year and that works out well, even though UNI can beat Iowa

              1. Also, Georgetown-GW and Georgetown-Maryland both played annually up until the 1980s when John Thompson pulled out of both games. There was history and he pulled the rug on it. It's not like it is a rivalry trying to be manufactured now.

                1. Final point. Maryland also has "nothing to gain" by playing GW (and they have climbed to the top much more recently than Georgetown), yet they still do. They haven't in a couple of seasons, but they're back on the schedule next fall.

              2. Drake, UNI, Iowa State, and Iowa all play each other once every year, alternating home and away every other year. Drake and UNI play a home-and-home every year since they're both MVC. The games when ISU and Iowa came to the Knapp Center were always such a great time. There's a picture of the back of my head when we stormed the court senior year after beating Iowa for the first time in like 30 years or something like that.

              3. I don't actually disagree at all. I think you should play the nearby teams. I understand why the more recognized program wouldn't want to, but that kind of self-serving attitude is exactly what makes the avoidance reprehensible.

              1. That was actually my point. Will left Brooks around, and it cost him. He could only be hurt by leaving Brooks alive, but did it anyway, and then was hurt by it.

                1. He could only be hurt by leaving Brooks alive,

Except the guy who won, did so precisely because he did leave me alive. So... it seems like a valid strategy, it's just that only one person can have a strategy that works every season.

If Will and I had formed the tight alliance that nibbish feared, Will could have won the season. So I think Will's problem was that he didn't throw in with me enough.

                    1. Hey, I can defend that. Granted, most of my defense is "Well, we weren't playing anonymously." The rest of it comes back to Will, as everything does.

                    2. My advice would be: never send someone as a secret agent to pretend to flip if someone else on your team has already flipped

                    3. Why would I think Tanya had flipped?! I still don't know why she thought it would improve her position. That was such a strange move from her.

                    4. It was strange, but you have to admit that once that happened, my best play was to join her. As a rookie player, I suppose you hadn't yet learned that fellow players make irrational moves all the time.

                    5. I definitely didn't consider how irrational she would be. I know Beezy's her closest friend that was playing, but prioritizing that above everything else with no other long-term plan besides "make sure that previous winners don't win" was truly bizarre.

And yes, I agree that if it was clear to you that she was flipping, the best move for you was to do the same.

                    6. I was in a perfectly good position until nibbs ignored all logic presented by adobery and me.

Also, let's get back on task: Georgetown sucks!!!

Since '07 Final Four, G'town has lost to Davidson, Ohio, VCU, NC State, and Florida GC in NCAA Tournament. Wow.

        1. Most of those Yankees teams didn't win a lot more games after beating the Twins.

  13. Beasley with a head injury. It would be amazing if the US ever developed a left-back.

        1. Honduras drew with Mexico. Not good, I'm willing to concede all the points to Mexico, but Honduras don't need to be getting any extra ones.

    1. Every time I flip over to that game, its a commercial (until the last 30 seconds)
whats going on? Kansas not making shots, or is W Kentucky making everything?

    1. The last three minutes, maybe. Before that, just putrid basketball by everyone involved.

      1. Well, yeah. But 33 points at this point is better than most of the basketball we've seen today

    1. This game tournament has set basketball a generation. Awful, awful first ten minutes round.

      FTFY.

        1. The only games I've been able to see have been whatever CBS has on, which have been pretty much poorly played games. I understand they are trying to get people to find TruTV, but it still seems like a dumb idea to not switch the CBS broadcast to more interesting developments when they happen.

  14. Walker needs to get on a fitness program during the offseason. He is not Mel Turpin talent but he is Dinner Bell Mel shaped.,

    1. I picked the Flying Hoibergs
just because he was one of my all time favorite Wolves player

  15. At the half, I was worried that the Gophers would stay at the level they were, while UCLA would stop being awful. The opposite seems to have happened.

  16. So, that's what it's like for a major Minnesota team to win a postseason game. That was fun.

  17. I watched the Spamtown-Marshall game last night (link to the broadcast on channel 45 is available somewhere). Austin's star was mostly invisible and, I hate to say, since he's the kid of an old friend of mine, looked slow and not particularly quick or athletic. He's got nice shooting technique and good range, but has a ton of work ahead of him to make any impact in D-I.

that said, Austin is very well-coached. They share the ball. No egos on display. They were patient, showed no panic being in a tight game in which their stud was a non-factor, played good, active defense, and always find good shots. Their junior PG was the star of the game. he's been a starter since he was a freshman. Unfortunately, he's only about 6'2" and, while he has a good handle and stroke, does not have next-level speed. A nice high school guard.

They are a balanced team that shoots well from outside and makes very few mistakes. They don't have a ton of athleticism. It will be interesting to see whether they can control tempo tonight against DeLasalle.
