  1. Rochester defeated Norfolk 6-1 yesterday. Shairon Martis pitched four shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks while striking out three. Pedro Hernandez pitched three shutout innings, giving up two hits. Mark Sobolewski had three hits and an RBI. Doug Bernier had two hits, an RBI, and a stolen base.

      1. I'm dreading summer. Absolutely dreading the hot, sticky, and yet slimy, funk hole that is a south Louisiana summer. The long the temps are cool (cold for the natives) the happier I am.

        1. It's been around 80-85 most days here lately and it's already annoying me. There are 30 degrees to go here.

I don't know how I'd actually manage humidity again. I've softened considerably while living in dry climates for the last five years.

        2. Sheenie's father was complaining to me yesterday about how cold it's been the past couple of days.

  2. Burnett optioned to Rochester. That's surprising. I figured he was close to a lock. I guess that means Hendriks is feeling better today. Looks like 25-man roster is set:

    SP
    Worley
    Correia
    DeVries
    Hendriks
Pelfrey (he's pitching final ST game)

    RP
    Perkins
    Burton
    Fien
    Duensing
    Robertson
    Roenicke
    Presly

    Lineup
    Hicks
    Dozier
    Mauer
    Willingham
    Morneau
    Doumit
    Parmelee
    Plouffe
    Florimon

    Bench
    Carroll
    Mastroianni
    Ramirez
    Escobar

      1. Groin strain doesn't explain being sent to the minors. He could be just placed on the DL instead. Fortunately, the Twins are looking at his entire body of work, not just what he did at the WBC.

        1. OK, not seeing anything on transactions. Maybe it was just assumed by a writer that he'd be optioned.

    1. That starting rotation does not inspire confidence. It should, however, inspire some great snark for the next six months. I think I'll tee up a post on how Terry Ryan saved the Twins season by assembling a staff of electric arms.

  3. I was looking through the available players in the Half-Baked League and found this:

Luis Mendoza has been awarded the fifth spot in the Royals' rotation.

    Not a ringing endorsement.

  4. The Blue Jays, Orioles, Twins, Indians, Cubs, Cardinals, Red Sox, Brewers and Mets all have scouts on hand for (Chris) Young's start against the Astros (Tuesday), according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter links). However, as he's quick to note, that doesn't necessarily mean that each team is there to scout Young specifically.

For what it's worth, Young was terrific in his outing, scattering two hits, a walk and an unearned run over four innings to go along with a pair of strikeouts.

  5. Logs and recaps for 2013 are almost set, though I do have a few openings:

    Game Logs: Tuesday
    Game Recaps: Monday, Wednesday

If you want any of those, jump in. I'm also waiting on yickit to respond to whether or not he wants his Log day from last year. Given the infrequency with which he shows up, that might free up too.

    1. Nah, I'm here pretty much every day, just not logged in.

I'm happy to help if no one else wants to do game logs, but I've been wondering if it would make sense to combine Game Logs, and Game Recaps again. There seems to be lighter interest this time around. The two people responsible for the day (Recap and Log) would be coauthors of the post which covered yesterday's game, and tonight's game.

Maybe people want two separate posts, I don't know. Any thoughts?

      1. When the team is terrible, I'd be happy with the previewer recapping the previous night's game

      2. I have indeed wondered if two posts are warranted in the bad years. For my money, recaps can be optional, though I always enjoyed what our Citizens came up with.

        1. I'm happy either way - could take the Tue logs and incorporate a recap of Monday games. Or, if people are feeling extra-creative, they could just do a recap when the urge becomes too overwhelming to resist.

        2. If you did decide to collapse the game logs/recaps I would be okay with giving mine up to a recapper that wanted it.

    2. I think I would be willing to take the Tuesday game log. Again, they will more or less suck, but there'd be words.

      1. Confidence! I like it.

I added you. So, there are two recap spots, but if we're going to be a little lax on those, I'm not worried.

        1. I wish I could do recaps, but I am able to see so few games that its near impossible. I'm hoping doing a game log will at least force me to dig into the team a bit more during the long parts of the season.

Tim McCarver will end his Fox Sports broadcasting career at the end of 2013. "It is time to cut back."

    1. Looks like he singled, stole second, advanced to third on a wild pitch, and scored on a ground out in the first. Love it.

      1. He went to third on an error on the SB, then scored on a groundout from Mauer.

  7. The new unchained from summit, brewed by a close, personal friend, is out. Y'all will have to let me know what it's like as I won't have access to it.

    1. Would that be the organic ale, by chance? I saw it in the store over the weekend and almost grabbed a pack.

  8. There are all kinds of sirens going off right outside the ballpark at the Twins' game. Dazzle is ignoring them.

      1. He could tell the first responders to get off his lawn. Back in my day, we had volunteer fire crews who formed a line passing a bucket of water from the river... and we liked it!!!!

      2. There are lots of other things to criticize Dazzle for, of course. I just thought it was funny that the sirens were so loud I could barely hear him and he didn't even acknowledge that anything was happening.

  9. the Phillies are on ESPN today (have been on a few times) and they have hitched their wagon onto Ben Revere.

  10. the Twins have a combined 31 home games scheduled in April and September this season but only 25 in July and August, including just nine in July.

This should be taken into account when looking at attendance figures this year.

    1. sounds like the schedule was copy and pasted from last year where the Twins had 24 games in July/August

    1. Speaking of MiLB, the Toledo Mud Hens are playing Rochester the week I will happen to be in Toledo in June. But it's @Rochester. Damn, that might have been my last chance to ever see the amazing Butera in action.

      1. You might not be able to see Drew, but I heard a rumor that his magic mitt is teaming with Cuddy to open for David Copperfield.

    2. You should definitely get there early and bring a sign near the Marlins dugout referencing either Naked Batting Practice or how much Bert Blyleven hates Kevin Slowey.

The first time I went to a Zephyrs game, Gary Gaetti was the hitting coach for the opponent (Round Rock, maybe?). I was wearing a Twins cap and spent about ten minutes chatting with Gaetti at the end of BP.

      1. It's clear we're cut from the same cloth considering my earlier sign wielding in NOLA. I plan on trying to catch k-slow and NBP before, during, and / or after the game.

  11. Over the past couple of weeks, against my better judgement, I have found myself rooting for the Miami Heat. Maybe it is getting older, maybe it is an appreciation for James' game, maybe it is just wanting to root for a winning team, I can't say for sure. With the Heat looking like they are going to lose tonight I must admit I am a little bummed out.

I think the main thing that drew me to this streak is that it is during my life, in a season when I have probably watched more basketball than any other season before. To appreciate something and be able to remember it for years is kind of neat. Sure, Wade is intolerable, James is a sell out, and Ray Allen is Ray Allen. I don't know that I will remember this as one of the best teams ever as much as I will remember it as LBJ letting everyone know that he is the best player in the league since Jordan. Kobe is an elite scorer, Duncan is the ultimate team mate and KG is nuts. None of these players on their best day is as good as LBJ this season.

Part of me roots for Lebron just in hopes of making the media shut the hell up. For all of the people that call him a choker, all of the people that say "count tha ringgggzzzz" and everyone who sits on a morning show on ESPN saying that he isn't the best since Jordan. Will I continue to root for the Heat though the season and playoffs? Well, I suppose that has a lot to do with who comes out of the West. Either way, no matter if you are a casual fan or love the NBA, watch as much of the Heat as you can. Lebron provides at least two or three holy crap moments a game. You won't regret it.

    1. They lost tonight, but I agree. They have been phenomenal. And James has been out of this world.

  12. Did anyone else (foolishly) watch the end of the Lakers/Wolves game? The refs swallowed their whistle and bailed Kobe out for one of the stupidest fouls I've ever seen. Rubio should've been shooting three FTs to attempt to send the game into OT, but nope. I mean I'm not surprised but good god I hate the Lakers.

    1. I was on the road tonight and caught the end of it. boo
the Wolves will never the the Lakers :/

then I found a Wild affilate (the FM rock station in Mankato of all places) and it just reminded me of how awesome Bob Kurtz is.
Now the Wild score when I flip on the tv. awesome

    2. also, Kobe is a jerkface, but his swag knows no bounds

      Jon Krawczynski ‏@APkrawczynski
Timberwolves had steam coming out of their ears after that last no-call. Kobe:"We would've went into OT and won the game. Simple as that."

      1. Admittedly it's a bit easier to have that swag...

Kobe on the last play of the game: "That's not a foul. They ain't calling that s---. I don't think I got him. That's a tough call to make"— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) March 28, 2013

When you know the refs got your back.

More Kobe on the last Ricky Rubio no-call: "I just put my hand in. It’s not like I went out and smacked him across the arm or anything"— Dave McMenamin (@mcten) March 28, 2013

        About that...

        httpv://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0HhkVStaY90

I'm not sure why this makes me so mad. I think it was just because I thought they were finally going to do it tonight. Oh, and because I hate Kobe.

        1. first time Ive seen it. wow. that was awful
the ref saying 'all ball' (:35 second mark)

        2. I know why it makes me mad: watching that replay, I couldn't help but picture the ball as Stern's face with a sickening grin on it. This is the best example I've seen of his caste system for the league.

        1. the wild were trying to be a little too cute with their power play in OT. granted phoenix didn't manage to clear it, but all the cutesy passing managed nothing. finally, koivu attacking the net did the job (oh yeah, and that suter wrister to tie it with a minute left was just pretty).

          1. Buddy took me to the game. They had a ton of chances and were this -><- close on a bunch of shots and rebounds, but nothing was going in. Kid behind me says, "Shoot, shoot!!!" and Suter ties it up. Hit overtime and the kids is screaming, "Throw it in!...just, just put it in!!!" and Koivu obliges. Turned around to give him a high-five and he's like, "who is this guy?"

    1. There are tons of Albertans around here (many have gone home for the season, but I still see enough of them). I may hear how they feel about this.
