  1. Right on:

    But then:

    Um ...

    Okay then I guess.

    1. "grown-ass" = profanity?
      Vulgarity, perhaps, but not profanity.

Now, certain words uttered by Dick Bremer's partner on live television broadcasts in the past, those are often classified as profane. (Though more restrictive definitions limit profanity to violations of the Second Commandment and similar violations of other religious tenets through speech.)

      1. Even assuming it is profanity, which is worse? Making fun of someone behind their back, the way he did about Slowey, or using a bad word once in a while?

    2. Yeah, Dick. Let's talk about the use of "profanity" that's so harmless that it's seeped onto daytime TV rather than the fact that you handled yourself like a buffoon.

I'm done with the Twins feed until these morons are gone.

      1. I've been done with the Twins feed for a while now thanks to the taxpayer friendly decision to ax all network TV games (thanks FSN!).

        1. The funny-sad thing is, it doesn't matter which Sox. Personally, though, I'd rather listen to Hawk Harrelson for 162 games than the clowns on YES for one.

          1. My personal style guide says:

Only the Chicago AL team shall be referred to with the unadorned "Sox" name, as they called it first. (It is merely a coincidental bonus that it bothers BoSox fans when one assumes context-free references to the "Sox" are their own preferred team.) The Boston AL team must be referred to as the BoSox, or Red Sox when one must be respectful.

Hadn't considered "Sawx", I never type in a Bawstun Accent, but I'm leaning towards interpreting that as Bostonians referring to the Chicago AL team.

      2. As bad as Dazzle can be at times, at least the radio team has had great (post-Gordo) play-by-play. I can live with that.

Sad thing is, Dick does fine play-by-play as well, it's everything else where he loses me.

        1. Dazzle isn't remotely as bad as Dick'n'Bert. As "get off my lawn" as he can be, I would listen to him over the TV feed every day.

      3. I'm done with all commentary, though it irks me that you have to use the NextDef option for PARK and that is at least 30 seconds behind the non-NextDef option.

  2. In every season in which Ron Gardenhire's Twins have had a .500 record at any point in the season, the team has finished no worse than two games behind a .500 record.

  3. Like DPWY, I waited later in the year than ever to get my taxes done. Started and finished them last night. Not being a homeowner really speeds things up.

      1. I checked your code. I don't see all off the stuff I used.
        Looked like this:
        &lt:blockquote class="twitter-tweet" data-conversation="none"><p>@<a href="https://twitter.com/freealonzo" rel="nofollow">freealonzo</a> @<a href="https://twitter.com/_andrew_mcguire" rel="nofollow">_andrew_mcguire</a> I guess you're entitled to your opinion and I'm not...sorry.</p>— Dick Bremer (@dbremer_pxp) <a href="https://twitter.com/dbremer_pxp/status/319788988514828290" rel="nofollow">April 4, 2013</a></blockquote>
        <script async src="//platform.twitter.com/widgets.js" charset="utf-8"></script>

        1. So shouldn't the response be something to the effect of "You can have your opinion. But sharing non-performance related opinions on-air isn't what a professional does."

          1. I don't really even have a problem with him sharing his opinion. My problem is that he also spent half the game slobbering over Torii. If he could make it clear that both were opinions and prone to bias, it doesn't bother me at all. It's that he says these things as the gospel truth and the fact that most casual fans won't bother to provide any context or analysis that is so annoying.

            1. I suppose... I'm still generally opposed to him sharing his opinion based on off-field interactions. More so for players from other teams than for Twins/former Twins, because it'd be based off of more limited interactions. But context would go a long way to fixing the issues I have with it.

              1. what bothers me, not just with Dick, but with all booth people and sportswriters, is how they bring this crap out after a guy has left/been traded. Suddenly, the departed player is a bad guy/bad teammate/lazy/has gaping flaws in his game, whereas he was golden before the departure. It just seems cheap. I know the guys work for the clubs in question (directly or indirectly), but, c'mon. Has some class. We don't need to demonize players who've moved on or been moved on.

                1. Agreed. I would also suggest that there's a difference between stating an opinion and mere mockery.

                2. What you all said said...if you're going to make observations, I don't mind hearing that the guy was a challenge to work with but be a professional about it.

                  1. This is, what, three years now where they've talked about what a baby and a jerk Slowey was, though? Sheesh. Something tells me if he wasn't all that fun to talk to, hearing the TV guys rip him nonstop wouldn't exactly warm relations.

                3. I think you're right about this in general, but in the Slowey case they were bashing him consistently long before he was gone.

            2. I have some trouble with him sharing his opinion if he won't elaborate more on why he has that opinion. If you're going to throw Slowey under the bus, at least give us some specifics.

      1. I like to tour statehouses too.

If this isn't the weakest "please invite me along" I've ever read...

    1. I remember the Children's Museum being fantastic as a kid, and the zoo is pretty good too. The State Museum was pretty nice, but I've not been there in years. They have a gigantic Foucault Pendulum. You can tour the Speedway too.

    2. The Bottle Rockets would like to remind you to make sure your fuel pump's in good working order and to make sure you have plenty of change for the jukebox.

  4. I've been very unavailable, but it looks like Chick Correia had a decent outing yesterday.
    GMTR 1 Gleeman 0

    1. Better than decent. He pitched very well. Had the advantage of the cold and the afternoon shadows for much of the day, but he was still pitching against the Tigers.

  5. The first line of the AP writeup on last night's Dodgers-Giants game:

When a pitcher with Tim Lincecum's credentials is attempting a bounce-back season and wins his first start, style points are unimportant.

      1. It's kind of sad to see how much Lincecum has lost it -- and he's still a young guy. He was crappy last night, but a pitching win is a pitching win, I guess.

        1. Kind of reminds me of Dontrelle Willis - burst onto the scene with the funky delivery and then it fell apart.

      2. He didn't have great velocity either, but the Dodgers were obliging him with GIDPs and a few first-pitch can-of-corn fly outs. In the third he had a 9-pitch inning: 3-pitch ground out, 5-pitch K, one-pitch fly-out. In the fifth, he had two on and nobody out (walk and ROE when Buster failed to scoop a very catchable bouncer that could have been a double-play ball): Ethier flew out to CF on the first pitch, then Cruz flew out to RF on a 2-0 count to score a run. Another walk and a fly out got him out of the inning and game.

also, Neck Fat did himself no favors: single, single, HBP and out of the game in the 6th.

    1. The book on Lincecum in the draft was that he'd fall apart based on his college usage, stature, and mechanics. Of course, the teams that passed on him were banking on him falling apart well before 2012.

  6. No ballgame (at least not the first portion) for me today; I broke a tip off one of my molars and have a 1PM appt. to get it fixed. So I have that working for me, which is (not) nice...

I don't have any ideas for Pelfrey's K thumbnails anyway.

    1. I'm working from home today, but I'll have to catch the end on the radio. Hopefully we have the game so far in hand I won't miss anything special

    2. I feel your pain Rhu. I had a crown break off 2 weeks ago.

Incidentally, my sister is opening her own dental practice in Andover in July, if anyone is in that area... I've been to enough dentists in my time to know she's good at what she does. (She is not the one who did the crown that broke. She fixed it though!)

    1. I once shot consecutive airballs on the front ends of one-and-ones in a B-squad game. I shoulda been drafted into the NBA.

  7. Is there interest in a sidebarred Twins schedule, as well as a Wild schedule now that they're inching near the playoffs? I don't have to update the Wolves one anymore, other than to delete games that have already been played.

      1. It seems to me a lot of chippiness comes at the end of the game when a team has pulled its goalie, has four guys around the other teams goalie, hacking away desperately to try and score a goal.

          1. Meh. Stupid 9:30 starts. I didn't make it through the second before I crashed on the couch. Sounds like Yeo was really angry and Heatley is out for tonight. There's a video of the slash on Russo's blog from this morning.

            1. What really upsets me is that there is virtually no disincentive for penalties by the team ahead by 2 goals or more with less than 2 minutes to play. You could rack up several 5 minute majors and it wouldn't help the team behind at all.

    1. I've been working on a new WGOM Video feature that hj requested a while back. After that, my plan was a generic schedule widget to automatically do the updating (with a bunch of help at the beginning). Hopefully you/we won't have to do any pruning after a few weeks.

        1. I could do it in five minutes, but it would add additional load to the front page. However, spending a bit of extra effort will reduce the load from previous levels and add functionality. Also, the default method of sorting for highest rated is a bit naive, so I want to implement it better. Plus, I don't want the DJs to feel completely unloved!

        1. Looks great! Although it does crystallize just how few games there are left. Sheesh.

          1. Ahh yes, but allows just enough time for guys to get healthy (fingers crossed) and for Pominville to get acclimated!

          1. Hmm, I know absolutely no PHP, but Codecademy does have a new tutorial for it. I might have a whack at it too, just to see if I can. I'm sure, however, it will be terribly bloated relatively.

            1. PHP can be rather frustrating. WordPress takes the bad parts of PHP and none of the good parts.

  8. Took Mrs. Hayes to see Casablanca on the big screen at our local Sundance cinema last night. First time either of us had seen it in a theater. It's not every day you get to cross something off a really high position on the bucket list.

      1. Is this a play it again Sam reference? If so: Booooooooooooooooooooooooo oooo oooooo. Ooooooo. Oo. Oo. Oo o

    1. Holy Sh!t...I almost committed suicide - I nearly sent that story along to my wife! I was like, "Oh, that explains a lot. Maybe she'll appreciate that we're happy!" I even had the e-mail addressed and everything before I actually thought about what I was doing!

    1. I loved his philosophy of judging a movie against what it was trying to be. I'll regularly read his reviews after I watch movies, since I found that he often had interesting takes on them. I'll miss that.

    2. I loved how he appeared, anyway, to continue to live his life to the fullest even after cancer had taken so much from him. We should all meet our ends with as much public courage as he displayed.

  9. I'm hearing very bad things about Gareth Bale and his ankle today. Doesn't sound good. Video looks nasty....
