AMR couldn't post the FMD today so I'm filling in. Since he usually kicks things off by talking about new music he's listening to I will take this opportunity to mention that I streamed the new Flaming Lips album The Terror. Didn't do a lot for me -- a lot of space age gobbledygook. Also picked up the new GBV e.p. Down By The Racetrack. It's probably only for completists. On that positive note, hopefully we'll see some rad lists today.

Liking the Dessa, eh?
Liking the Dessa, eh?
Yes, definitely. I've had basically this same playlist for weeks now, but she hasn't come up much until now. I know the whole point of a random selection is that it's random, but I still get baffled by what my list looks like every week.
Oh yeah. My first handful of lists I pretty much wanted to shout "this isn't representative!" But it's the internet, and no one can hear you shouting.
UNLESS YOU DO IT LIKE THIS! ALL THE TIME!
You'll have to speak up. I can barely hear you.
1. “you met your match” – stevie wonder – for once in my life
2. “just be simple” – songs: ohia – the magnolia electric co.
3. “all my friends (john cale version)” – LCD soundsystem – all my friends
4. “colleen” – joanna newsom – joanna newsom and the ys street band
5. “threads” – portishead – third
6. “jump monk” – charles mingus – thirteen pictures
7. “ブルー” – つじあやの – CALENDAR CALENDAR
8. “darker with the day” – nick cave and the bad seeds – no more shall we part
9. “we’re comin’ out” – the replacements – let it be
10. “jack killed mom” – jenny lewis – acid tongue
For reasons I can't explain, I really like the song "Jack Killed Mom."
i could do without the random narration, but the end of the song is pretty sweet.
Hey AMR, there's a lot of anime OST tracks that have been jazzed up, including several Ghibli; many on youtube if you haven't seen them:

10. Sophie B. Hawkins - "As I Lay Me Down" - Whaler
I think "The Sound of Sunshine" should be the official song for today.
I'm pretty happy with this list.

Did anyone else check out the new Knife album this week? I was very, very pleasantly surprised with it.
Rich Boy released his follow up to his platinum selling debut with zero fanfare on some no name label on Tuesday. It was a pleasant surprise to find out about it. And it was a good album. It's a bit outside of his comfort zone, but he's still awesome on the mic. I just love his delivery and flow. I'm so glad he's come back and started releasing stuff again.
I've been saying I was going to for over a week now, only to get ambushed with other things like James Blake and... well, Oasis. Tonight, though, it's happening for sure.
Looking forward to the new Eleanor Friedberger record.

There are at least two of us.
I feel I'm in good company.
I know we both thought there was little or no live footage of FF that did them justice, until I saw this.

Who might think that, you say?
There are at least two of us.
Turn that one WAY UP.
And this one, too.

Part of the joy of FF is that their live materiel is a joke that only they get. It is the only band whose inaccessabilty (?) is part of the charm . Though this clip is pretty terrific.
That second clip is even better. That as good as it gets for them.
Thanks for the quick fill-in, free. I was expecting 60% chance of GbV, and 20% of Van Halen, so you defied my expectations.
1. Iannis Xenakis "XXX"* Kraanerg
2. Fila Brazillia "DP's R Us"* Mess
3. Coil "Light Shining Darkly" Stolen & Contaminated Songs
4. We Are the Willows "The Windows" A Collection of Songs and Something Like the Plague
5. Das EFX "Freakit (Remix #1)" Freakit 12"
6. The Knife "Crake"* Shaking the Habitual
7. Deep Puddle Dynamics "Where The Wild Things Are"* Taste of Rain... Why Kneel?
8. Merle Haggard "I Am What I Am"* I Am What I Am
9. Eskmo "We Have Invisible Friends" Hypercolor EP
T. Underworld "Dinosaur Adventure 3D" A Hundred Days Off
*Notes:
1. Not adult-rated, but part 30.
2. Not sure what "DP" stands for here, but this little ambient piece's title still fits for a nice starter for Twins Baseball.
6. I haven't had a chance to listen to anything other than the two video songs and this yet. This is neat. I'm a bit afraid, though, that Karin put all of the band's pop sense into her Fever Ray project.
7. I used to be all about Adam "Dose One" Drucker's vox, but I lost him (or he lost me?) about halfway onto the second cLOUDDEAD album, to be confirmed further by the second Themselves album. One thing I did really enjoy was that when he'd talk to himself in first person, by his given name, I felt like he was addressing me.
8. Could this be Merle's best song, in his fifth decade as a singer and songwriter? "I believe Jesus is God and a pig is just ham. I'm just a seeker, I'm just a sinner. I am what I am." It's at least top five Merle for me. (Although there's a ton I don't know.)
I missed the GBV in free's leader. My expectations were met.
Dylan + The Band "Yazoo Street Scandal" Basement Tapes
Fantastic Four "If This World Were Mine" Cellar Full of Motown
Jaylib "The Red" Champion Sound
The Strokes "Between Love and Hate" Room on Fire
Flying Burrito Brothers "The Train Song" Hot Burritos!
Monk "Monk's Mood" Genius of Modern Music
The Buzzcocks "Everybody's Happy Nowadays" Going Steady
Langhorne Slim "Mary" When The Sun's Gone Down
Hold Steady "Don't Let Me Explode" Separation Sunday
Destroyer "Your Blues" Notorious Lightning and Other Works
In news that is really only news to me I believe Destroyer has firmly entrenched themselves in FTLT's top 10 favorite bands of all time.
You and S-n-P, both.
As of press time the only albums of their's/his that I am not in love with are the first and the last. The rest is absolute gold.
After watching the above videos that might be enough to finally get me to listen to some non-Destroyer music for the first time in three weeks.
