Derek Holland
v
Pedro Hernandez

No Plouffe today (he still hasn't gotten an error for that play) and Mauer makes his first appearance at first. Escobar is back, but at third.

      1. For NBBW, that mean's making extra large batch so you have leftovers to take to work, which eventually go bad in the fridge.

  1. Rangers color: "We'd like to wish a happy birthday to Margaret (Something), who currently lives in...Alberta...Lea...near the Iowa border."

He then referred to the metro area as the "metroplex." It doesn't bother me that he doesn't really know Minnesota, but I laughed.

    1. Wonder what he'd do with Wayzata, Shakopee, Edina, Anoka, Faribault, Cloquet, Mille Lacs, Aitken, and Kabetogama Lake.

      1. Out here the 'tricky' town names I've run into: Berlin (pronounced 'burr-lin), New Britain (New 'Britt-en), Weatogue ('wheat-ogg), Worcester('woo-ster), Gloucester ('glow-ster), Haverill ('hav-rill), Chatham (chat-am), Scituate (skitch-you-ate), Alewife (no idea), and Lake Chargoggagoggmanchauggagoggchaubunagungamaugg (home of the Nipmuck Indians).

            1. In Paris (26 years ago) tried to buy train tickets to go to Rheims. I did my best to give it a go, but the train-ticket-lady kept looking at me like I had two heads.

'Rrrrrraighn' (from NBBW) seemed to work.

I think they were just messing with me.

          1. In middle school, I dated a girl named Neh-VAY-duh. Her parents spelled it with three A's and no E's.

        1. New Orleans is full of street names like Versailles (ver-sails), Burgundy (bur-GUN-day), and my personal favorite Milan (My-lan).

        1. better be careful what you say. Kahn might trade Ricky Rubio for a bag of cotton candy as revenge for talking to Flip Saunders

    1. Am reading 'The China Study' - the author doesn't attribute MS to vitamin D deficiency, rather animal-based proteins are the problem.

      1. a spokesperson was in the booth discussing MS and she mentioned something about how it often affects those of european descent, to which he replied in a smarmy tone, "isn't everybody?" she laughed nervously and said, "...not really."

  2. Just got back from short trip to Minny. Productive trip - planted 60 trees (4 new species - River Birch, Golden Willow, Red Splendor Crabapple, and American Plum) - brings me up to 64 different species of trees on the property.

    1. river birch are lovely enough trees, but they drop a lot of twigs/sticks/small branches on the slightest of winds.

but a tip o'da hat for planting trees.

      1. Yeah, when we bought the place back in '87, it was all just hay fields. I started buying bare root seedlings from the DNR, Washington County, and the last pack from from Chisago County. Most of the conifers have stuck - lost a lot of the deciduous trees to the deer (Juglans nigra, any kind of Malus get nailed hard by the packs of deer going from Wm O'Brien State park to the cornfields north of us). Now must be a couple thousand trees on the property - after 26 years of growth I have a nice forest.

          1. Naw. Several years back some ruffians stole some Larix laricina (Tamarack) that I had lifted from some Northern bogs in the Superior National Forest whilst grouse hunting. Would I give them some lead if I caught them red-handed? Not sure.

  3. the Rangers starting pitchers have been economical with their pitch count this series.

    1. Mmm, stock pot. Just got a Le Creuset for Scandia but haven't broken it in yet.

    1. Why the ShankSteaks after 5-inning O'fer for Teh Pedro. Did I miss something? Blister? Hang-nail?

      1. Hernandez hasnt pitched in about 2 weeks. Gardy said he needed some stretching out.

  4. Triple OT for Nets/Bulls. I was watching this as a secondary thing but it's so gripping I keep forgetting to watch the Twins. What a ridiculous game.

      1. Watch the horse meat in those Swedish meatballs, i.e. apply additional ligonberry sauce to mute the mental image of Dan Patch on your plate.

  5. I see we scored some more runs while I was sleepasaurus on my couch. From the comments, I take it there was a Willingham donger?

  6. Half-marathon tomorrow morning at 9:30 in Cheshire, CT.

Ruptured plantarsis muscle swelling muchly down, signs of bruise abated.

    I will do my best.

    1. Good luck!

I've been suffering injuries all month. It's really a bummer since there have been tons of great running days this month that I've missed.

    2. Good luck, amigo.

mc and I did a few laps of the park earlier, then I jogged it home. The weather here is absolutely gorgeous today.

  7. Twinsbroadcastapedia: Wayyy back == fly ball (caught). Carom == multiple base hit. Slicing == foul.

          1. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion. It is by the juice of sapho that thoughts acquire speed, the lips acquire stains, the stains become a warning. It is by will alone I set my mind in motion.

  8. Damn. Throwing Pyrzynski out at the plate would have been such a sweet way to end the game.

  9. Pedro Hernandez will be rookie of the year! He and Kevin Correia will battle it out for the Cy Young! We're still on track for 152-10!
