ROCHESTER 8, LEHIGH VALLEY 7 IN ROCHESTER (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)
Batting stars: Jeff Clement was 2-for-4 with two home runs, giving him six for the season. Doug Bernier was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
Pitching stars: Luis Perdomo struck out three in 2.2 innings, giving up one run on two hits.
Opposition stars: Leandro Castro was 3-for-5 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in four. Josh Fields was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Cesar Jimenez retired all eight batters he faced, striking out three.
Key inning: The sixth. In the top of the inning, a pair of singles resulted in a run for the IronPigs to put them ahead 7-5. In the bottom of the inning, Clement homered to make it 7-6. Deibinson Romero singled, Brian Dinkelman walked, and a bunt moved them to second and third. Ray Olmedo then delivered a two-run single to give the Red Wings the lead.
ROCHESTER 8, LEHIGH VALLEY 7 IN ROCHESTER (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: Clete Thomas was 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer (his eighth), scoring twice. Danny Lehmann was 3-for-3 and scored once. Dan Rohlfing was 1-for-1 with a walk and a home run (his first), scoring twice and driving in two.
Pitching star: Shairon Martis struck out four in two perfect innings.
Opposition stars: Josh Fields was 2-for-4 with a home run and scored twice. Jermaine Mitchell was 2-for-4, scoring twice and driving in one. Cody Asche was 2-for-4 with three RBIs.
Key inning: The fifth. The Red Wings had scored once in the fourth to tie the score at six. Fields led off the top of the fifth with a home run to give the IronPigs a 7-6 lead. In the bottom of the inning, Thomas led off with a double and Deibinson Romero drew a one-out walk. Jeff Clement singled to tie the score and Rohlfing drove in the go-ahead run with a sacrifice fly.
In case you're interested: Pedro Hernandez lasted 3.1 innings, giving up six runs (three earned) on nine hits and two walks.
RICHMOND 10, NEW BRITAIN 5 IN NEW BRITAIN
Batting stars: Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-3, scoring once and driving in one. Jordan Parraz was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Chris Pettit was 2-for-5 with a double.
Pitching star: Bobby Lanigan struck out one and gave up one hit in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars: Javier Herrera was 3-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three. Ehire Adrianza was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two. Adam Duvall was 2-for-5 with a two-run homer.
Key inning: The fifth. The Flying Squirrels trailed 4-3 when they struck for five runs. Duvall hit a two-run homer to put Richmond ahead. Mark Minicozzi doubled and scored on a single by Adrianza. A walk and two more singles plated two more runs to make the score 8-4.
In case you're interested: D. J. Baxendale was less than impressive in his AA debut. He pitched two scoreless innings, then gave up one in the third, two in the fourth, and was charged with all five fifth-inning runs. He pitched 4.2 innings, giving up eight runs (seven earned) on nine hits and two walks.
FORT MYERS 10, BRADENTON 3 IN BRADENTON
Batting stars: Eddie Rosario was 3-for-5 with a double and a home run, his fourth. He scored twice and drove in two. Kennys Vargas was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a home run, his tenth. He drove in three. Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-5, scoring twice and driving in two.
Pitching stars: Matt Tomshaw pitched six innings, giving up one run on two hits and a walk. Nelvin Fuentes struck out three in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit. Zach Jones walked two and struck out two in a scoreless inning.
Opposition stars: Zac Fuesser struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit.
Key inning: The third. In a scoreless tie, the Miracle scored five times. Angel Morales led off with a single, stole second, took third on a wild pitch, and scored on a single by Mejia, who also stole second. Rosario delivered an RBI double and scored on a single by Miguel Sano. Vargas then killed the rally with a two-run homer to give Fort Myers a 5-0 lead.
