I have kind of lost touch with the monthly workout goals and that might be because I've slacked off on the workouts.
I weighed in this morning at 213.5, which puts me down 7.1 pounds from the May 13 reboot on the diet. I haven't worked out at all in the last two weeks. I have felt some tenderness in my left hip and I've used that as an excuse to not work out. Tonight or tomorrow, however, I am going to get on the recumbent bike and ride for 45 minutes and see how it goes. I have a lot of yard work to do this weekend, so between that and a trip to the gym, I should be getting some exercise in.
I was thinking this morning that I'm just over 10 months into this program and I'll bet I haven't eaten 5 lbs. of beef in that time. I don't miss it at all. I like beef, but it's not essential, for sure. I've eaten a lot of turkeys, though!
That's amazing. Good on you. I go one weekend back home and beef will be served at every meal. Also, my wife claims the kids "need" red meat. Not just meat – read meat.
On the other side, my wife suddenly decided to start tracking calories and has set a goal. It has been a nice turnaround. I'm helping her navigate the app I have been using and trying to keep things positive. Our oldest has had some health class stuff this spring, so she is getting interested in food and sharing what the teachers have been telling her at school. On the other side we've been sharing what we think we know.
My weight is back down to the low point. Would be fired up to see < 190 within the next 7-10 days.
out of curiosity, what app do you use?
and actually, that leads to a larger question to the group: what apps have you found useful for dieting, exercising, etc?
MyFitnessPal
MyNetDiary Pro. I'm not tracking (or doing much) exercise. Just calories, sat fat and some other basic "nutrion fact" stuff. It's pretty good, though the UI has issues. After a few days, entering previous stuff gets easier. And they have really quick turnaround in adding foods that aren't in their system. They claim 24 hours max.
my wife gets discouraged pretty easily when she's good on calories for two straight weeks and actually gains weight during that time.
Yeah, women's bodies are much more complex than ours. I don't even pretend to suggest to my wife that daily weighing and tracking is a good idea for her.
I think tracking is still a good idea, just to know what you're putting in your body. If my wife starts tracking again, I'll think I suggest she not step on the scale for two months.
By tracking, I meant tracking weight. By all means, we should be watching what we eat.
What if you suggested it to her a million times, Boss? She might come around.
You first.
Seriously, though, I don't want her to focus on her weight on a day-to-day basis. She's going to fluctuate, so I would rather she take a longer view on it. She's not overweight, though, so the point is moot.
Heck, I do as well. I've noticed when I stick to calories and gain, I can almost always point to massive salt intake in the day or two prior. I think women have even more of these sorts of fluctuations.
It's a good one. My user name is edikken if anyone wants more friends on there.
Er, this is a reply to Beau about MyFitnessPal.
