Cole "lots of losses" Hamels (2-9, 4.56 ERA) vs. PJ "not the answer" Walters (2-1, 3.00 ERA)
I'm gonna go ahead and call PJ's 3.00 ERA misleading as I don't think he's pitched particularly well. Certainly not as well as maybe someone who's name rhymes with Pile Fibson might have been able to pitch. Basically, I kind of just want the Twins to promote and start the guys who are probably going to be the team in 2015. Get em some experience prior to their epic World Series run.
The Phillies are coming off of getting the tar beat out of them by the Brewers, who we all know are completely terrible. So, really , I completely expect the Twins to win all of these games, because losing 3 out of 4 to the Brewers means you are not good.
More importantly, I'm stuck in Toledo this week. Toledo is not at all exciting, which means its probably the perfect place for me. But hell, I can get un-exciting back home. The highlight so far has been walking past the Toledo Mud Hens stadium, which is pretty cool. Its a shame they aren't in town this week so I could go to a game. The second highlight was last night at the bar we ate at when I ordered a Guinness/Torpedo black and tan and the bartender wondered what it should be called. She immediately suggested "Missle", which I thought was pretty great. Also, it was pretty tasty.
Meanwhile, my hotel is right across the street from the CWS stadium; I'm here a week early because I can actually get a hotel room this week.
Rowsdower, I'm camped at DJ's Dugout if you were completely bored. Sorry, late notice
Thanks for the invite, but too much to do here at the homestead.
figured as much. Got the game on one of their big-@ss screens; think I'll stay until my laptop battery dies (50 minutes?)
Revere has four doubles and one triple this year. I liked him plenty in center field, but not going to miss the zero power.
zero power? You just said he has four doubles and a triple
I rounded down to zero. His ISO is .031 this year.
at a grad party 2 weekends ago overheard a guy talking about Joe Mauer making too much money and didnt hit enough HRs (really? this is still a thing?) and the Twins could have used the money to keep Span and Revere and Wilson Ramos (!)and bought some pitching.
Since I didnt know the guy I didnt butt in and say Mauer would hit more HRs in a season than Span and Revere combined.
I think there's a direct correlation between Hamel's W/L and Delmon's presence on the team.
No hits by leadoff hitters in 6 games.
Carroll has been struggling lately. Good to see him pick one up there.
there's your line drive percentage, socal 😉
Avoided the GIDP, though!
+1 Golden Sombrero
sorry, I'll take the blame for that runner not scoring; I had forgotten to disable Gameday Scout again
Earlier in the year, I disabled Scout and it stayed off. Then they moved the little gear icon and now the damn thing rises from the dead every time I reload Gameday.
I could have sworn last year I disabled it and it stayed off for good; this year is always is on when I open Gameday

PJ "No Fear" Walters
UNO!
Lightning from the sky will strike you down.

Ooooooo. Know.
nice we've loaded up this lineup with
hitterslefties against Hamelsmmm, shoulda had that pick, Justin
He's missed a couple, recently. I think he still digs out an above-average amount of poor throws, though.
I agree. I wouldn't criticize if I didn't play first myself, but that still hadn't touched the dirt yet (barely)
I thought he should have had the one yesterday(?) on the two-hop throw from Florimon, too. Hopefully he's just missing a couple and not having vision trouble or anything.
oh man, don't even go there
old man stolen base!
Jamey "Sole Offense" Carroll with the steal; can't score him again
This outfield is...not good.
PJ spinning a nice game so far, keeping it in the park and not dishing out the free passes #OhGodDidIJinxHim?
You better turn on Scout so you can find out.
Nice wall bangers.
Mmmm, bangers and mash.
was Ben Revere playing Arcia in the infield? lol
Doubles for everyone!
Except Dozier.
Its Dozier though, so its close enough.
Yup, I'm happy with "ball in play" at this point.
battery dying during the rally; better pay up my bill and walk back to the hotel. bring in some more, guys!
Revere's cap fell off and everything...no dice.
So since I've been back they've done nothing but hit. Sorry for not coming back earlier guys.
I hope you walked out of the room during that double play.
Uhh, yeah, sure, that's what happened.
14 more days of Clete Thomas
Oy
I'm really hoping for Richardson or something before then.
I should know, but I dont. What does Mr. Richardson bring to the table?
Socal did a writeup on him a while ago- gets on base, plays good defense. He's also 29. More interesting than Clete, anyhow.
More interesting than Clete, anyhow.
For some reason, I really wish this was a milestone post.
Clete Thomas doesn't seem to have much sense of what he can and can't get to in center field.
That sounds strangely like his approach at the plate, too.
Well played, sir.
PFP put to good use on that play
6IP, 1 run, unearned. That'll do.
Okay, back at the hotel, and I remembered to turn Gameday Scout off right away this time
That'll do Clete. 1 out of 3 ain't bad.
Sheesh. At times, I wonder how Clete ever gets a hit.
Walters is making me look a little bit like an asshole right now, huh?
I mocked Deibinson Romero and now he's looking pretty good. Maybe Walters needed some negative encouragement as well.
That's it. No more positive comments about anyone.
That's been so easy to do the last couple years. Sigh.
Klete
Single? You suck, Walters!
...hitting the wall softly...
...singing its bricks with his words...
good job PJ Walters
well, that is embarrassing
Some arm confusion in the bullpen.
Gardy keeps going to Duensing. He has way more faith in him getting a crucial out than I do.
Perfect spot for Perkins. Middle of the order and two lefties.
BUT FIVE OUTS...CLOSERS CANT DO THAT
Your lack of faith appears justified.
Howard does the impossible and gets a hit against a lefty.
well cr@p, sorry about that, PJ, you didn't deserve that to happen
5K: is that a non-Chick season record?
I think Worley had one high-K game.
Now seven-way tie for fourth. Correia, Pelfrey, and Worley all had a single seven strikeout game.
In his fourth game! He's the new Ace!
Casey Fien vs LHB this year: 32 PA .148 BA
Brian Duesning vs LHB: 49 PA .277 BA
Casey can't be called on to get every relief out before the ninth inning.
Gardy has tried that before with Rincon, Neshek, and Guerrier, and it eventually didn't work out.
Jamey Carroll is a rally machine tonight
Hello.
THE TWINS ARE GOING TO WIN THIS GAME!!!
a 3 run blast by Dooomit would be awesome
poop. hit it about 55 feet
At least he was the only one out.
Carp.
bastardo!? that name is awesome.
If he had retired Morneau, I had this comment composed:
"He killed
Kennythe Rally!"Stealing my lines? You bastard!
/Points to timestamp
I was so prepared to say, "Oh my God! He killed Morneau!"
But then Mountie ruined it by driving in the go ahead run.
The bastard!
Bastardos of Young
Ship it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To Canada.
MOUNTIE STRIKES!
whats missing on that FSN poll question is Aaron Hicks robbing a HR from Adam Dunn
Pwn3d!
Puppies and fireworks.
Now to see if the US can put away Panama.
thats a good start
Brian Duensing, proven winner
gag.
Twins win! USA wins! Spurs win! A perfect night! On the way to a perfect rest-of-the-season! We're still on track for 129-33!
