Minor Details: Games of 6/15

The Red Wings win in the ninth.  A big day for Nate Hanson.  Seven strong innings for Tom Stuifbergen.

ROCHESTER 6, GWINNETT 5 IN ROCHESTER

Batting starsDan Rohlfing was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in three.  Antoan Richardson was 0-for-2 with three walks and scored twice.

Pitching starLuis Perdomo pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Starter David Hale struck out four in four shutout innings, allowing three hits and three walks.  Cole McCurry struck out three in three perfect innings.  Ernesto Mejia was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer and scored twice.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Red Wings trailed 5-1.  James Bersford and Chris Herrmann opened the inning with singles, followed by a walk to Richardson to load the bases.  A pop up was the first out, but Chris Colabello singled in two and Jeff Clement singled in one to cut the lead to 5-4.  With two out, a wild pitch moved runners to second and third, and Rohlfing delivered a two-run game-winning single.

Prospect watchKyle Gibson pitched six innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and a walk and striking out four.

NEW BRITAIN 8, HARRISBURG 1 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting starsNate Hanson was 2-for-3 with a double and a home run (his third), driving in five.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-1 with a double and two walks, scoring three times.  Miguel Sano was 0-for-1 with three walks and scored twice.

Pitching starsTom Stuifbergen struck out seven in six innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.  Edgar Ibarra pitched two perfect innings with one strikeout.  A. J. Achter struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Jimmy Van Ostrand was 2-for-4 with a double and a home run.

Key inning:  The first.  In a scoreless tie, the Rock Cats scored three times.  With one out, Eddie Rosario doubled, Sano walked, Pinto doubled to drive in the first run, Hanson hit a sacrifice fly for the second run, and an error brought in the third run.  New Britain controlled the game the rest of the way.

FSL SOUTH 8, FSL NORTH 1 IN DUNEDIN

TwinsKennys Vargas was 1-for-3.  Matt Koch was 0-for-1.  Taylor Rogers started and pitched a perfect inning.  Corey Williams struck out one in a perfect inning.  Zach Jones struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and no walks.

South stars:  Dustin Lawley was 3-for-4 and scored twice.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a two-run homer.  Alen Hanson hit a three-run homer.

North star:  Javier Baez was 2-for-4 with two doubles.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Trailing 1-0, the South tallied five times.  Stephen Piscotty opened the inning with a home run.  Lawley singled and Rodriguez walked.  Curt Casali singled to load the bases, and a sacrifice fly put the South ahead.  Hanson then followed with a three-run homer to give the South a 5-1 lead.

PEORIA 8, CEDAR RAPIDS 3 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting starTravis Harrison was 2-for-4 with a home run, his eleventh.

Pitching starTim Atherton struck out three in three innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Jimmy Parque was 3-for-4 with a three-run homer.  Patrick Wisdom was 2-for-4 with a home run and two RBIs.  Jesus Montero was 1-for-2 with a home run and two hit-by-pitches, scoring three times.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The Chiefs led 2-0.  Jordan Walton led off with a triple and scored on a single by Wisdom.  Nick Martini doubled and Montero was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  A home-to-first double play left runners on second and third and gave the Kernels hope of getting out of the inning.  The hopes were dashed when Parque hit a three-run homer to make the scored 6-0.  The runs came off starter Hudson Boyd, who gave up six runs on seven hits and a walk in just 3.2 innings.

Prospect watchByron Buxton was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
