Minor Details: Games of 6/23

Chris Colabello homers again.  Lots of offense for the Kernels.  Yes, these games are a few days old, but I like to be complete.

ROCHESTER 8, LOUISVILLE 5 IN LOUISVILLE

Batting stars:  Chris Colabello was 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer (his seventeenth), scoring twice.  Drew Butera was 2-for-4 and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Andrew Albers struck out six in five innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.  Michael Tonkin struck out two in 1.2 perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Denis Phipps was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Billy Hamilton was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The score was tied at one.  Two singles and an error loaded the bases with none out.  A sacrifice fly by Doug Bernier put the Red Wings ahead and a sinngle by Chris Herrmann made it 3-1.  A walk loaded the bases again.  Deibinson Romero drove in two with a single and a ground out brought in the fifth run of the inning.

AKRON 4, NEW BRITAIN 3 IN AKRON

Batting star:  Josmil Pinto was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Pitching star:  Dakota Watts pitched 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up one hit.

Opposition stars:  Matt Packer struck out nine in 6.2 innings, allowing one run on seven hits and no walks.  Cedric Hunter was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Rock Cats trailed 4-1.  Jordan Parraz walked and scored on a Curt Smith double to make it 4-2.  Daniel Ortiz singled and Danny Santana hit a sacrifice fly to make it 4-3.  With two out, Nate Hanson walked an Pinto was hit by a pitch to load the bases.  Miguel Sano then popped up to end the game.

Prospect watch:  Sano was 0-for-5.  Eddie Rosario was 1-for-5 with a double.  Trevor May struck out five in 5.2 innings, but gave up three runs on six hits and a walk.

FORT MYERS 7, PALM BEACH 5 IN PALM BEACH

Batting stars:  Mike Kvasnicka was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his second), driving in three.  Jhon Goncalves was 2-for-5, scoring once and driving in one.  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Manuel Soliman pitched 5.2 innings, giving up two runs on eight hits and two walks.  Nelvin Fuentes struck out one in 1.1 scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk.  Zach Jones retired all three men he faced, striking out two of them.

Opposition stars:  Danny Stienstra was 2-for-4 with a home run, driving in two.  David Popkins was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.

Key inning:  The first.  The Miracle scored three times before the Cardinals came to bat.  Singles by Mejia, Stephen Wickens, and Goncalves loaded the bases with none out.  Kennys Vargas walked to force in a run.  A double play followed, but Kvasnicka singled in two to give Fort Myers an early advantage.

Prospect watch:  Vargas  was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

CEDAR RAPIDS 13, WISCONSIN 9 IN WISCONSIN

Batting stars:  Jorge Polanco was 4-for-6 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Max Kepler was 3-for-6 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in three.  J. D. Williams was 3-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his sixth), scoring twice.

Pitching star:  Steven Gruver struck out two in two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Victor Roache was 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs.  Tyler Roberts was 3-for-4 with a walk and a homer, driving in two.  Max Walla was 3-for-5 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Kernels had scored six in the third to take a 6-2 lead, but the Timber Rattlers cut it to 6-5.  The Kernels scored six more in the fifth.  Adam Brett Walker II led off the inning with a homer.  Williams singled and scored on a triple by Byron Buxton.  A walk and three more singles made the score 12-5.

Prospect watch:  Buxton was 2-for-5 with a walk and a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Dalton Hicks was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.

ELIZABETHTON 5, GREENEVILLE 3 IN GREENEVILLE (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Rory Rhodes was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in two.  Mitch Garver was 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Andrew Ferreira pitched two perfect innings.  Dallas Gallant gave up one hit in two shutout innings.  Luis Nunez struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Frederick Tiburcio struck out five in four shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.  Krishawn Holley pitched three shutout innings, allowing a hit and a walk.  Darwin Rivera was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Key inning:  The tenth.  The score was tied at three.  A pair of singles and a bunt put two men in scoring position, and an intentional walk loaded the bases.  Garver then delivered a two-run single for what turned out to be the margin of victory.

Prospect watch:  Kelvin Ortiz was 1-for-5 and scored once.

DSL TWINS 5, DSL DIAMONDBACKS 4 AT TWINS (10 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Manuel Guzman was 3-for-5 with a double and scored twice.  Francis Mateo was 2-for-4 with a double and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Jose Ramirez struck out five in 4.2 scoreless innings of relief, giving up two hits.  Ezequiel Zarzuela gave up one hit in two shutout innings of relief.  Jhon Silva gave up no hits in two shutout innings, of relief, striking out two and walking two.

Opposition stars:  Richi Sanchez was 1-for-3 with two walks and scored once.

Key inning:  The tenth.  The score was tied at four.  One-out singles by Guzman and Rafael P. Valera were followed by a balk to put men on second and third.  Jorge Parra then singled in the winning run.
