After being swept at home by the Yankees, can't say I'm feeling particularly positive about a series in New York. At least now there's a simple reason why the Yankees sweep them: the Twins suck.

If Diamond doesn't pitch Cano hard inside all night, I might boycott the rest of this series. I'm not saying he should plunk the guy, but don't let him set up camp in the frigging batters box, either.
All things being equal, I would rather play the Yankees right now than the Rays. Especially since Jeter isn't able to play this weekend. Of course, when the Twins play the Yankees, nothing ever seems to be equal.
I thought Jeter was back from his rehab. Didn't he play the other day? I seem to recall seeing him beat out a dribbler down the third base line for a hit in his first AB back.
He came back and injured his quad. Looks like he's out for a few more days still.
They must have hired someone from the Twins training staff.
I don't care where he pitches against Cano. Just get him out.
Parmelee batting second tonight. Interesting. Gardy finally realized a guy with an OPS+ under 100 shouldn't be batting third. I guess he didn't anyone else he wanted batting second so Mauer could bat third. Apparently not ready to trust Hicks batting at the top of the order.
I predict a Twins blowout victory tonight
Are the Twins really hitting just .170 with RISP in July? Good grief.
Huh, I would have said .170 seems high.
OPSing .170 sounds more likely.
Diamond fails his first test in getting Cano out.
Not the worst possible true outcome, though.
On the plus side, he kept the no-hitter alive.
The wife is at work and the girls are out with friends. That means leftovers for dinner. Reheated pork chop, egg noodles with olive oil and garlic, green beans and a Leine's Honey Weiss. Deja vu all over again.
tuna sandwich, Doritos, Hawaiian Punch for me.
I made chicken fajita salad with a cilantro-lime vinaigrette as a side dish to my New Glarus Dancing Man's. I'm very fortunate to live in Wisconsin.
I'm the guy who tends the campfire while the bacon-chicken kebobs and the bacon, carrots and onions wrapped in foil cook. It's about the closest I actually come to cooking.
Omaha Steaks burger with Gouda and bellpepper, corn on the cob, and a Mike's Lite
Harry's Bishop's Corner pizza 1/2 Sausage + Pepperoni, 1/2 Hawaii. O.K.
I am only a recent convert to the Canadian bacon + pineapple pizza. Why I resisted for so long I'll never know.
not so recent for me, but I'm a latecomer to Hawaiian pizza as well
If you could only know that the pig was, well, really Hawaiian. Like Lord of The Flies.
aaaaand now the appetite is gone
Just pulling your chain. How bout channel Black Forest Smoked Bacon?
mmmmm, bacon...
I've had corn on the cob twice this week.
So have I. Too bad it was mediocre.
The stuff we got was awesome, from a produce stand in Clearwater.
There goes the no-hitter.
Bremer going on (again) about not moving the runner over. You know what I say, if a runner is on second and Joe Mauer is up, he is good enough to score on a hit.
Yankees + Joe = scared.
It was a foul ball, but that was an impressive bare-handed grab by Mauer.
I think that pitch when Cano backed out should have been called a strike. Gameday has it dead-center at/slightly above the knees.
Diamond has been squeezed some so far, but it might be tough for the ump with the rain coming down.
I think due to him missing Mauer's target and Cano stepping out distracted the ump.
I cant believe they are still playing this game. the rain is really pouring
Yeah, this is absurd.
Is Carl Spangler on this umpire crew?
I think they should play through.
I'm guessing Yankee Empire will probably give them all rain checks with a free Nathan dog.
Coomer now questioning Arcia's swinging and pitches that aren't that close to the zone. So, Arcia being aggressive is good when it gets good results and bad when it gets poor results.
but, there a line where one is aggressive in the strike zone and when one is just aggressively swing at pitches. Arcia is hacking away right now.
That what free swingers like him do though. When he slumps, it looks awful and when he does well, he's jumping on pitches.
Souvenir bat!
Groundskeeping away.
good gravy, they are going to continue. hopefully no one gets hurts
Sheesh. Game delay so they can apply another 40 bags of the Diamond Dust.
So now the wall is approaching in the distance, and it's really wet, too
Maybe he'll have the advantage with the Yankees not being able to see the ball coming.
Another Zoilo. Heh.
Only the second one ever in MLB history.
Apparently it's a common name.
The Mark of Zoilo. hehe
And the yanquis calling him the Z-pak. Shoot me.
So's Fausto
For f***'s sake, roll out the tarp!
And now comes the tarp. Finally.
Well, this would be a good time to go for a bike ride. BBL.
Tri practice tomorrow morning at 7 clicks at Lake Crystal, Ellington.
FSN needs more rain delay programming.
at least its not the 50 Greatest Twins.
#1 Harmon Killebrew
#2 Tony Oliva
Cripes, looking at his mugshot, was Lyle Overbay homeless when the Yankees came to him with a contract?
In rehab?
Pretty sure that doesn't cut traditional Yankee grooming standards.
not a homer. boo
JMIVGABB.
pre-All-Star Game surge is a little late this year
oh great. Hopefully Pressly isnt hurt
he was hurt running into the 5th inning wall for Diamond
phooey
Cano? Plunk him!
Runner on third, first base open, and you toss a cookie down Broadway to Cano. F this S.
He really crushed that three-hopper.
FSN graphic had a leaderboard with Paul Goldschmidt's name but a picture of Justin Heyward
oops
Saw on the ticker that Detroit has a player named Hutner.
Toree?
+2 vowels.
WHY THE HELL ARE YOU PITCHING TO CANO
bert
Billy Martin would have plunked him. I miss Bill Martin.
I watch the Twins most everyday still, because I like baseball, and I like the Twins.
But jeeze, I get this feeling of no hope when crap like this happens.
Its a no brainer. walk the dude and face Wells.
now its 2-0 and with the weather the way it is, and the whole never beating the Yankees thing there might not be a comeback
It's a little thing, and it's been a long time since the Twins have been accused of doing the little things right.
Heck of a throw by the rookie there.
HOLY [REDACTED] HICKSIE!
Let's see Ben Revere make that throw.
HA!
made me laugh.
Two Reveres couldn't relay that throw to third.
the Pale Hose fire sale begins:
for those who missed: Hicks throws a ball 900 feet to get an out.gif
If we assume he threw it from straightaway center, which is listed at 408 feet, then he threw the ball 350 feet.
yeah, 'listed' at 408, just like RF is 314
It is 314. The issue is that it doesn't curve out like it used to, so the distances don't increase as quickly. Andrew Clem has the best illustration of that.
Of course, the other issue is that it's 314. Screw the minimum of 325 foul lines.
I am shocked the Yankees get to play under a different set of rules.
#2 'Web Gem' on the 9pm Baseball Tonight. what a ripoff
giving Parms the bunt sign makes me do a facepalm.oy
that was a check swing? bull
Strike three my ass.
Might as well just call the game. It's not like the Twins will actually manage to tie the game.
Wow, great 5-3 on both ends!
that was a nice play by Plouffer
strike that, that was a GREAT play.
admittedly solid observation by the coomdog that plouffe has to make that jump there, or nowhere at all.
oh my, nice play by the fan! lol
Poor kid's going to have nightmares about that.
Well, the Twins are batting even worse than .170 with RISP now. This is reaching Timberwolves 3pt% level of terribleness.
It's like the whole team turned into Aaron Hicks circa April 1-15.
It's not like the media is focusing on the RISP thing or anything.
Arcia going through a 12-16 stretch.
12 k's in his last 16 at bats.
the Twins will win tomorrow.
Poor puppies.
Mistah Puppy — he dead.
Not even Mother Nature can stop the slide.
Still on track for 37-125.
The difference in this game is that the Twins couldn't get a roller to find a hole with a RISP like the Yankees did. Way to go Yankees. Really hit the crap out of those. (Slow clap) The Twins have been doing as good as can be expected with RISP this season, but the media keeps focusing on it because they're too stupid to realize that relying on hitting with RISP is a bad way to go unless you get way more opportunities than your opponents. The problem is the Twins don't hit for enough power. Counting on balls in play to fall your way at the right time means periods where it just won't. The media has focused so much on RISP, it's obvious the Twins are thinking about it too much now.
The Pioneer Press called the Twins "Hapless as ever," but you know what, I saw a lot of good things in this game. No. 1, the Twins allowed 2 runs to the Yankees at Yankee stadium. How often does that happen? There was fantastic defense played by the Twins, including one of the greatest throws you will ever see. Joe Mauer appears to be out of his slump. He reached base three times, including a double. Dozier had another two hits and lined out in the first inning.
unless you get way more opportunities than your opponents
Well, they did get twice as many RISP as the Yankees, and they did hit twice as many XBH as the Yankees...
I was talking in general, not this one game. In this game, it was obvious the Twins were thinking way too much about hitting w/ RISP.
The law of averages is clear that after you have a run of bad luck, you'll get a run of good luck to even it out. The Twins are owed so much good luck now, there's absolutely no question that we'll just have to settle for 109-53!
I'm no statistician, but I have to agree with Jeff A. The Twins are going to go on a long winning streak soon!
