Minor Details: Games of 7/11

Chris Colabello goes deep again.  Another good outing for Pat Dean.  Stephen Gonsavles continues to pitch well.

ROCHESTER 7, PAWTUCKET 6 IN PAWTUCKET

Batting stars:  Jermaine Mitchell was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Eric Farris was 2-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer, his third.  Chris Colabello was 2-for-5 with a home run (his twenty-fourth) and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Aaron Thompson pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up one hit and no walks while striking out one.  Cody Eppley retired all four batters he faced, striking out one.  Shairon Martis pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and one walk while striking out one.

Opposition stars:  Jeremy Hazelbaker was 2-for-4 with a home run and scored twice.  Alex Hassan was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Red Sox trailed 7-1.  Starter Logan Darnell gave up a single and a two-run homer to Xander Bogaerts to make it 7-3.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases and Hassan hit a two-run single to make it 7-5.  Will Middlebrooks singled to load the bases, still with none out.  Thompson entered the game and got a double play (on which one run scored) and a strikeout to end the threat.  The score was 7-6, and there it stayed.

"Prospectwatch:  Antoan Richardson was 1-for-5.  James Beresford was 0-for-3 with two walks and scored once.

NEW BRITAIN 2, TRENTON 0 IN NEW BRITAIN

Batting stars:  Jordan Parraz was 2-for-2 with a walk.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-3 with a walk.

Pitching stars:  Pat Dean pitched 7.2 innings, giving up six hits and a walk while striking out four.  Dakota Watts struck out two in 1.1 innings, giving up one hit and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Mikey O'Brien pitched five shutout innings, allowing three hits and no walks while striking out two.  Jose Pirela was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The seventh.  It was a scoreless tie.  Two singles and a walk loaded the bases.  Eddie Rosario delivered a two-out two-run single for the only runs of the game.

Prospect watch:  Rosario was 1-for-4 with two RBIs.  Nate Hanson was 0-for-4.  Miguel Sano was 1-for-4 with a double.

JUPITER 6, FORT MYERS 1 IN FORT MYERS (COMPLETION OF SUSPENDED GAME)

Batting star:  Kennys Vargas was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourteenth.

Pitching star:  Kyle Davies pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on four hits and three walks while striking out four.

Opposition stars:  Andrew Heaney pitched four shutout innings, allowing one hit and two walks while striking out three.  Miguel Fermin pitched three shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks while striking out two.  Alex Burg was 2-for-3 with two walks, a double, and an RBI.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Already leading 3-0, the Hammerheads scored three times to put the game out of reach.  Four consecutive singles and a sacrifice fly produced the runs.  The damage was done off Matt Tomshaw, who came in to start the inning.

Prospect watch:  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-4.  Byron Buxton was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Mike Kvasnicka was 0-for-3 with a walk.

JUPITER 6, FORT MYERS 2 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting star:  Aderlin Mejia was 2-for-4.

Pitching stars:  Adrian Salcedo pitched three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.  Ryan O'Rourke pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition star:  Austin Nola was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double.

Key inning:  The second.  The Hammerheads broke up a scoreless tie with six runs.  The runs scored on a walk, five consecutive singles, two more walks, and a sacrifice fly.  The runs came off starter Taylor Rogers, who pitched only two innings.

Prospect watch:  Byron Buxton was 0-for-4 and scored once.  Kennys Vargas was 1-for-3.  Mike Kvasnicka was 0-for-3.

DAYTON 13, CEDAR RAPIDS 9 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Jonathan Murphy was 3-for-5, scoring once and driving in two.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-2 with three walks and a two-run homer, his fourteenth.  Jeremias Pineda was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.

Pitching star:  Hudson Boyd pitched three innings, giving up an unearned run on one hit and two walks while striking out three.

Opposition stars:  Tanner Rahier was 3-for-5, scoring twice and driving in one.  Seth Mejias-Brean was 3-for-4 with two hit-by-pitches, a run, and an RBI.  Jesse Winkler was 1-for-3 with two walks and a home run, scoring twice and driving in four.

Key inning:  The fifth.  Leading 7-3, the Dragons scored four in the top of the inning.  The runs scored on three walks, an error, a sacrifice fly, and a single.  The Kernels scored four in the bottom of the inning, with J. D. Williams hitting a home run, but could never really get back into the game.

Prospect watch:  Jorge Polanco was 2-for-6 with a double.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-4 with a walk and scored once.  Max Kepler was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1.

ELIZABETHTON 5, BRISTOL 4 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Javier Pimentel was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Zach Granite was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored once.  Dereck Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with a walk and a double and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Ethan Mildren pitched a scoreless inning, giving up no hits and two walks.  Dallas Gallant struck out two in a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Starter Scott Carroll struck out six in three shutout innings, allowing three hits and a walk.  Victor Velasquez was 2-for-3 and scored once.  Cody Yount was 0-for-0 with three walks and scored once.

Key inning:  The seventh.  The Twins trailed 4-3.  The first two batters went out.  Granite walked and Kelvin Ortiz hit a walkoff two-run homer.

Prospect watch:  Romy Jimenez was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1.  Ortiz was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer.  Felix Jorge struck out six in five innings, giving up four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks.

BRISTOL 11, ELIZABETHTON 6 IN ELIZABETHTON (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Dereck Rodriguez was 2-for-3 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Romy Jimenez was 2-for-3, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching star:  Aaron Slegers pitched a perfect inning with a strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Trey Michalczewski was 3-for-4 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Patrick Palmeiro was 1-for-2 with two walks and a double, scoring twice.  Jon Bengard struck out four in two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.

Key inning:  The fourth.  Trailing 6-2, the White Sox scored seven times.  A single followed by three walks produced the first run.  Following a strikeout, a second run was walked in, then two scored on a Nolan Earley double to tie the game at six.  A wild pitch put Bristol ahead, a passed ball scored an insurance run, and three more walks forced in yet another run.  Most of the damage was done off starter Carson Goldsmith, with the last two walks coming courtesy of Andre Martinez.

Prospect watch:  Zach Granite was 0-for-3 with a walk.

GCL TWINS 6, GCL ORIOLES 2 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Joel Polanco was 2-for-3 with a walk.  Jason Kanzler was 2-for-4 and scored once.  Evan Bigley was 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring once and driving in three.

Pitching stars:  Stephen Gonsalves struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Josh Guyer pitched a scoreless inning with a hit, a walk, and a strikeout.  Markus Solbach gave up an unearned run on one hit, walking none and striking out one.

Opposition star:  Oswill Lartiguez was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Key inning:  The sixth.  Trailing 1-0, the Twins scored six.  They had six singles, a walk, an error, and a triple.  RBIs came on a single by Jonatan Hinojosa, a three-run triple by Evan Bigley, a single by Alex Swim, and a ground out.

Prospect watch:  Swim was 1-for-4 with a run and an RBI.  Adonis Pacheco was used as a substitute and was 0-for-1.
