I was on vacation for the last week and a half or so. I didn't count calories at all. I didn't set out to do any specific workouts. I managed to do some substantial hiking, and got a few good workouts in that way, but nothing that was dedicated as a workout for itself. I consumed far too many liquid calories. I find myself up a few pounds (back around 205) after that stretch.
Today is my first day back to work, and I'm finding the willpower to count calories has greatly diminished. I do intend to get back to it, and I kept a mental list through breakfast, but coming back is a beast, and I treated myself to a burger for lunch and... yeah. I might try to get out for a bike ride tonight, but that might be tough too. Philosofette is in the last 2 weeks of her semester, and has a bunch of big projects due, so kids are pretty much exclusively my duty for the next couple weeks, and fitting in workouts will be tougher.
How is everyone else doing?
A friend purchased a used ski boat a few weeks back and we went out for a few glorious hours yesterday afternoon. I'm in decent shape, though nothing compared to when I last skied - maybe 8 years ago - and easily about 20 lbs heavier. I had a few successful runs and even managed to do some slalom.
My forearms and triceps are sore. My wrists and hands are sore. My shoulders and back are sore. My hips, gluts, quads, abs, deltoids, trapezoids and any other 'zoids' you can think of are sore. I. Am. Sore. It was a lot of fun, but I'd forgotten how much physical effort is involved. Next time, I'll be sure to stretch before and after.
The Blerch.
Nice link - remind me (again) how you write the link to open in a new tab...err, please.
add target="_blank" after the closing quote of the URL and before the > in the link
bS - After a second reading, that link is not "Nice" - it's Pretty Fu^$*'g Fantastic. Thanks.
Yup, that was fantastic. Thanks.
Spent the weekend in Tahoe with friends. Ate excessively, drank excessively. Lost 3 pounds. WTF? It certainly wasn't due to the 1.5 mile hike or sitting on the beach for a couple of hours, or the 5 hours (round trip) in the car. Maybe turning 50 scared my metabolism into overdrive.
Fitty cent.
I weighed 175 this morning. The number isn't all that bad, but it means I gained five pounds in the last two weeks. I knew that the combination of lots of windshield time and then trying to frantically catch up on an unplanned week away from work was bad for me (turns out a diet of M&Ms, blizzards, and Mom's chocolate chip cookies is not a good weight loss plan--who knew?). Still, as others have pointed out, we can always start over again. I'm back on a better diet today, and I rode my bicycle a little over ten miles. It's a start.
I was at 172 this morning. I doubt that I lost three pounds yesterday; more likely, one of the readings was wrong. I don't know which one, but I like today's number better.
Did 34 miles on the bike on Sat and 39 on Sunday. A little sore, so tonite did a 3.5 mile run instead. Time to roll out the legs...
Due to poor Spring weather and dealing with my wife's health issues, I hardly rode my bike at all until the middle of June. Over the past few days, I just noticed that I'm starting to get my legs back. I think this weekend I'm going to go for a longer (50-70 miles) ride. That will be my first ride over 40 miles for the year.
Did a 40 mile ride this weekend and total miles of 70+ so far. Tracking consistent with my century training.
Almost 2 am. Finished my first leg of the relay. 7.2 miles into a stiff nodak breeze. A couple hours of rest now then another 6.x miler.
It was a little rougher than I expected but I still ran an acceptable pace for me @ 9:25 miles.
Leg 2 complete. 6.2 miles @ 8:59 pace. Great pace for me but I was struggling. Felt like I was having an asthma attack the last mile but I think it was more emotions than anything.
Now I can eat guilt free today... And nap.
You ran faster on the second leg? Congratulations. That doesn't sound easy.
Wind. With this course I ran straight into it on the first leg. By the second leg it had largely diminished and was in my favor.
Is that like a RAGNAR you are doing?
After a quick google, I'd say this is similar. Ours was 81 miles split between 6 runners. We finished in just over 12 hours.
Hopkins Vineyard tri this morning: 1/2 mile swim, 10 mile bike around Lake Waramaug, very hilly 5K at the end.
Then the vineyard had wine tasting (four varietals) with cool free wineglasses, and a nice spread with artisanal cheeses, fruit, wraps, and veggies. Very Litchfield County.
I went on a 26 mile bike ride earlier today. I had initially planned to try to get to Lake Minnetonka, but I bailed about four miles short.
At one point, the path I was following merged with a street. I missed the ramp to get back on the path and rode parallel to it for a couple of blocks. Then, I reached a dead-end at a cul-de-sac where the path split off. There was no ramp to the path, but a homeowner's driveway about four feet away with a very snotty sign telling bikers not to use it. I tried to be polite, so I slowed up but misjudged the curb and took a nice, slow tumble. Thankfully, no major injuries because I had slowed so much.
Then, on the way back home with about five miles left to go, I shifted gears at the bottom of a hill and my peddles completely locked up. I hopped off and played around for a minute and got things working fine, but it was far from ideal to lose all of my momentum at the base of a hill.
Hey free, I'm sure you've ridden out to Lake Minnetonka. What is your preferred route? The reason I turned around was that I realized I was on the Minnesota River Bluffs trial and heading in the wrong direction.
I did the ride to Minnetonka on Saturday. I'm pretty sure you are on My Map Ride. You can check out the route here. I went all the way to Mound and rode around a bunch before heading back. Basically from Theodore Wirth Pkwy there is a trail heading west. The intersection is just south of the par 3 golf course club house. But check the map.
Maybe we can do this route together some time.
Ah, I see what you did. After going by the Depot, you kept on going straight. Just past the Depot you have to go into downtown Hopkins, there you catch the trail to Excelsior and Lake Minnetonka. It's not well signed and you have to know what you're doing to get there. This route shows the turn in Hopkins.
