Minor Details: Games of 7/28

An offensive explosion in Rochester.  Miguel Sano returns to the lineup for New Britain.  A big thank-you to socal for filling in the last couple of days.

ROCHESTER 14, NORFOLK 3 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  Deibinson Romero was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his eighth, scoring twice.  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer, his second, scoring twice.  Eduardo Escobar was 2-for-4 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Virgil Vasquez pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.  Shairon Martis pitched three innings, giving up one run on two hits and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Chris Snyder was 2-for-3 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The score was tied at two.  Ray Olmedo singled, stole second, and scored on an Eric Fryer single to give the Red Wings the lead.  With two out, singles by Parmelee and Oswaldo Arcia made the score 4-2 and Romero hit a three-run homer to give Rochester a comfortable 7-2 lead.

Prospect watch:  Arcia was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring twice and driving in one.

NEW BRITAIN 9, READING 3 IN READING

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a home run (his third), driving in three.  Danny Santana was 2-for-3 with two hit-by-pitches, scoring twice and driving in two.  Dan Rohlfing was 2-for-5 and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Kyle Davies struck out six in seven innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks.  Dakota Watts pitched a scoreless inning, giving up two hits.

Opposition stars:  Albert Cartwright was 2-for-5 with a double.  Maikel Franco was 2-for-4.

Key inning:  The second.  In a scoreless tie, the Rock Cats scored five runs on two hits, both singles.  Nate Hanson walked and Rohlfing singled.  Walks to Angel Morales and Adam Pettersen put New Britain on the board.  Santana was hit by a pitch to bring in a second run, Rosario walked to force in a third, and Miguel Sano hit a two-run single to make it 5-0.

Prospect watch:  Sano was 1-for-3 with two walks and two RBIs.  Josmil Pinto was 1-for-4 with a walk.

CLEARWATER 5, FORT MYERS 4 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.  Dalton Hicks was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Adrian Salcedo pitched two shutout innings, giving up three hits and no walks with one strikeout.  Manuel Soliman pitched a shutout inning despite giving up one hit and two walks; he struck out one.

Opposition stars:  Severino Gonzalez pitched seven innings, allowing two unearned runs on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.  Carlos Alonso was 4-for-5 and scored once.  Harold Martinez was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Miracle had cut a 5-0 deficit to 5-3.  Hicks walked and Kennys Vargas got an infield single.  With two out, walks to Jhon Goncalves and Stephen Wickens made it 5-4 with the bases loaded.  Levi Michael then grounded out to end the game.

Prospect watch:  Aderlin Mejia was 0-for-4 and scored once.  Vargas was 1-for-4.  Taylor Rogers pitched six innings, giving up five runs (four earned) on nine hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

CEDAR RAPIDS 3, CLINTON 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  Max Kepler was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jonathan Murphy was 2-for-4.  Jeremias Pineda was 1-for-2 with a walk, a double, and two RBIs.

Pitching stars:  Mason Melotakis struck out seven in eight innings, giving up an unearned run on five hits and no walks.  Madison Boer pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  David Holman pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Key inning:  The sixth.  The score was tied at one.  Singles by Kepler and Michael Quesada put two on with two out.  Pineda doubled both runners home to give the Kernels a 3-1 lead.

Prospect watch:  Adam Brett Walker II was 0-for-4.

JOHNSON CITY 3, ELIZABETHTON 1 IN JOHNSON CITY (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Dereck Rodriguez was 2-for-6 with a double and scored once.  Bryan Haar was 2-for-5 with an RBI.

Pitching stars:  Brandon Peterson struck out three in three shutout innings, giving up four hits and no walks.  Brandon Bixler struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.  Ryan Eades pitched two perfect innings.

Opposition stars:  Blake McKnight struck out five in six innings, allowing one run on six hits and a walk.  J. J. Altobelli was 3-for-4 with a walk and a home run.  Leandro Mateo was 2-for-5 with a walk and a two-run homer.

Key inning:  The twelfth.  The score was tied at one.  Andre Martinez came in to pitch and started the inning with a walk.  He struck out the next two batters, but Mateo then hit a two-run walkoff homer.

Prospect watch:  Romy Jimenez was 1-for-5.

DSL DIAMONDBACKS 4, DSL TWINS 3 AT TWINS

Batting stars:  Francis Mateo was 2-for-4 with a home run, his second.  Gabriel A. Ynfante was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Joel Ramirez was 1-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.

Pitching stars:  Onesimo Hernandez pitched four innings, giving up two unearned runs on two hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Jadison Jimenez pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.

Opposition stars:  Anderson Placido struck out twelve in six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and two walks.  Frank Tineo was 2-for-3 with a double and scored once.  Luis Veras was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Key inning:  The ninth.  The Diamondbacks trailed 3-2.  Carlos Aponte came in and gave up a walk and a single.  With one out, Veras singled to tie the game.  A walk loaded the bases and Vicson Graciano singled in the go-ahead run.

Prospect watch:  Frank Encarnacion was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Dubal Baez was used as a pinch-hitter and was 1-for-1.  Williams Ramirez pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.
