August 26, 2013: She Made It

My sister lived fast for a lot of years, and I wasn't sure she'd ever see 22 years old, as she is today. She's mellowed out some, although some Facebook snooping suggests that her new(ish) boyfriend is a hard partier...sigh.

    1. I also enjoyed Breaking Bad last night!

      With one exception...

  1. I gotta admit, hearing "we are the sons of no one" put a chill down my spine.

    1. And now the Firefox bug hits me.
I must have been late on an update.
For some reason, forced into using https://

      1. I'm curious if this is still the case now. I made some edits and it seems to work.

This is partially deliberate, partially due to a an old plugin. I enabled HSTS on the site, which makes https "sticky". More recently, I increased the time limit to two weeks. The sidebar plugin, however, is dumb and doesn't generate proper, schema-less URLs. That means it's possible to be on the plaintext site and get switched over the https (which will happen to anyone that clicks a link after I post this comment).

        1. It works in my firefox at home (which is my wife's browser), but I don't know if it ever wasn't working there.
I'll check it at work in the morning.
I actually tried changing the URL to http:// and it reverted to https://

That would be HSTS at work.

Judging by the sidebar link, which uses https, you are using https right now.

            1. Everything on the work computer and its Firefox Web Browser is Hunky-Dory.
              Thanks for your awesomeness Sean!

    2. I've wasted spent most of the afternoon checking up on the gig.

Also, when I heard that Dave Minehan and Josh Freese were the, um, replacements, I knew the band would be in fine shape. (They were in PW's touring band, and featured in the first video I ever played as a WGOM DJ. If I remember correctly, it didn't receive one LTE.)

  2. Sure, Affleck is Batman. But Bryan Cranston is Lex Luther. Suddenly I've changed my mind about whether I'm interested in the movie.

I love that dude. He deserved an Emmy for Malcom.

      1. I think I'd like it even better if it were shorter.
        Pitch-Swing-catch-Aborted run to first.
Cut to Tulo asking "How'd you catch that?" Fin.

        1. Except then you don't get the second cut to Tulo.
"?????" (I'm an expert lip-reader, and that's an exact transcription.)

    1. Now THAT is a pitcher fielding his position. Wow.

Also, watch the second baseman- he's almost as confused as Tulo.

    1. I want more details! Clearer pics! Further Zoom!
I want to see my house and neighborhood get built.

    2. somewhat apropos: NASA picture of the Rim Fire in Cali

      Rim Fire, California

This natural-color satellite image of the drought-fueled Rim Fire was collected by the Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) aboard NASA's Terra satellite on Aug. 25, 2013. The fire began on Aug. 17 and, as of Aug. 26, continues to burn on the Stanislaus National Forest, Yosemite National Park, and Bureau of Land Management and state responsibility land. Over 224 square miles have been affected.

  3. I think I can retire from Twitter.

It only took like 100 things sent to Bois to get RT'd. Except this isn't an RT. Damn, gotta stick around...

      1. And here I thought the only thing I had to worry about with Harvey was the innings limit the Mets were going to impose on him. Poo.

        1. If I could trade Jose Fernandez for any value at all I would. Sadly, he is not a keeper. Who traded him to me this season anyway? That was a good deal for me.

                1. Did nibs draft him? And he was straight traded to you? Then he can be kept, since that's not a drop.

                    1. I had forgotten about that. I was thinking that it was insane that I would've traded him in the first place, since he's obviously keeper material. The way it all worked, he was more useful more as trade bait.

  4. boo

Athletics Designate Pat Neshek For Assignment #mlb

    1. boo is right, but the results have not been there for Pat. 4.57 FIP, 4.66 xFIP (both very similar to last season), 28:12 K:BB and 40 hits/6 HR allowed in 37 2/3 innings. He's been below-replacement with the A's and would have earned a $25K bonus on his 45th appearance (he's at 41).

      1. in vaguely related news, Spamtown's finest, Michael Wuertz is still looking for ML work.

His numbers in the Atlantic League this year:

        Player G GS CG IP H R ER BB SO W L SV 2B 3B HR ERA
        Wuertz 45 0 0 43.1 31 14 14 19 57 4 1 3 6 0 4 2.90
    1. With all that good news, one might forget that they are on pace for their third straight 90 loss season and no reason to believe that the pitching staff, at least the starters, won't be the worst in the league again next year.

      1. My thoughts, too. Throw in the fact that Morneau and Blackie's salary are off the books, with little reason to think they'll spend that 20 million elsewhere, their payroll will drop for the 3rd straight year. Raising ticket prices would be the height of hubris.

        1. I'm hoping against hope they make a really strong bid when Masahiro Tanaka is posted. It's not like there's a real difference maker in FA, back up the truck.
