INDIANAPOLIS 8, ROCHESTER 5 IN ROCHESTER (10 INNINGS)
Batting stars: James Beresford was 2-for-3 with two RBIs. Jermaine Mitchell was 2-for-5 with two runs scored. Darin Mastroianni was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.
Pitching star: Shairon Martis struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.
Opposition stars: Matt Hague was 3-for-5 with two doubles and a home run, scoring twice and driving in three. Jared Goedert was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Kris Johnson pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Key inning: The tenth. The Red Wings had just scored two in the ninth to tie the score at four. In the tenth, Chase D'Arnaud led off with a single, followed by an RBI double by Hague and an RBI single by Russ Canzler. A single and a hit batsman loaded the bases and a pair of sacrifice flies made it 8-4 Indians. Rochester scored once in the bottom of the tenth but never threatened to get back into the game.
Prospect watch: Eduardo Escobar was 1-for-4 with a walk. Chris Parmelee was 0-for-5 with an RBI. Aaron Hicks was 0-for-3. Kyle Gibson pitched five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on five hits and a walk with four strikeouts.
Pennant race update: The Red Wings lead Norfolk in the wild card race by a half game.
NEW BRITAIN 7, BOWIE 4 IN BOWIE
Batting stars: Miguel Sano was 2-for-3 with a walk and two home runs (his sixteenth and seventeenth), driving in four. Kyle Knudson was 2-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Eddie Rosario was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in one.
Pitching stars: Pedro Hernandez pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with two strikeouts. Matt Hauser retired all seven batters he faced with two strikeouts.
Opposition star: Caleb Joseph was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Key inning: The third. The Rock Cats led 2-0. With one out, Danny Santana singled, stole second, and scored on a Rosario double. A ground out and a wild pitch scored Rosario with the second run of the inning to put New Britain ahead 4-0.
Pennant race update: The Rock Cats are 7.5 games out of the last playoff spot. Their elimination number is two.
FORT MYERS 5, ST. LUCIE 1 IN FORT MYERS (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)
Batting stars: J. D. Williams was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a home run (his first), driving in four. Byron Buxton was 2-for-2 with a triple and a hit-by-pitch and scored once. Levi Michael was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double and scored twice.
Pitching stars: Taylor Rogers pitched six innings, giving up an unearned run on four hits and four walks with three strikeouts. Tyler Jones pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Dustin Lawley was 2-for-3. Gilbert Gomez was 1-for-2 with a walk.
Key inning: The fifth. It was a 1-1 tie. With one out, Michael walked, Adam Pettersen was hit by a pitch, and Williams hit a three-run homer. That was followed by a triple by Buxton, who scored on a Dalton Hicks RBI single.

Batting stars: Stephen Wickens was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one. Dalton Hicks was 1-for-2 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one. J. D. Williams was 0-for-1 with two walks and scored once.
Pitching stars: David Hurlbut pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts. Adrian Salcedo pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.
Opposition stars: Rylan Sandoval was 2-for-3 with a triple and scored once. Jayce Boyd was 2-for-3 with two RBIs.
Key inning: The sixth. The Miracle led 4-1, but in the top of the inning Sandoval tripled and scored on a Boyd single to make it 4-2. In the bottom of the inning, Fort Myers struck for four. All the damage came with two out. Wickens doubled and Byron Buxton was intentionally walked. Then came accidental walks to Hicks and Kennys Vargas to make it 5-2. A wild pitch scored another run and Jairo Rodriguez delivered a two-run double to put the Miracle up 8-2.

Key inning: The fourth. The Kernels already led 3-0. With one out, Walker doubled, Jeremias Pineda singled, and Jonathan Murphy walked to load the bases. Grimes singled in a run, a wild pitch scored another, Adam Brett Walker II walked to load the bases, and Mike Gonzales was hit by a pitch to force in a third run, putting Cedar Rapids ahead 6-0.
