ROCHESTER 5, BUFFALO 2 IN ROCHESTER

Batting stars:  James Beresford was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Antoan Richardson was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Chris Parmelee was 2-for-5 with two doubles and scored once.  The first four Red Wings batters combined to go 10-for-20 with four doubles.

Pitching stars:  Scott Diamond pitched six innings, giving up two runs on seven hits and no walks with five strikeouts.  Shairon Martis pitched 2.1 scoreless innings, giving up no hits and one walk with one strikeout.

Opposition star:  Brad Glenn was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Thad Weber struck out eight in six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on eight hits and a walk.

Key inning:  The fourth.  The Red Wings led 2-1.  In the top of the inning, Parmelee led off the inning with a double and scored on a tw0-out single by Jermaine Mitchell.  In the bottom half, Luis Jimenez hit a one-out homer to cut the lead to 3-2, but the Bisons would get no closer.

Prospect watch:  Eduardo Escobar was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Darin Mastroianni was 1-for-4 and scored once.

TRENTON 9, NEW BRITAIN 8 IN TRENTON (12 INNINGS)

Batting stars:  Eddie Rosario was 3-for-6 with two RBIs.  Reynaldo Rodriguez was 2-for-6 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Daniel Ortiz was 2-for-5 with a walk and scored twice.

Pitching star:  Dakota Watts pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks with one strikeout.

Opposition stars:  Ramon Flores was 2-for-6 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in two.  Kyle Roller was 2-for-5 with a three-run homer.  Ben Gamel was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

Key inning #1:  The eighth.  The Rock Cats trailed 5-3.  With two out and none on, a single, two errors, and a wild pitch put runners on second and third.  Rosario delivered a two-run single to tie the score.

Key inning #2:  The eleventh.  The score was tied at five.  In the top of the inning, Nate Hanson led off with a single, Ortiz hit a one-out single, and Rodriguez followed with a double to put the Rock Cats ahead 6-5.  A ground out scored another run to make it 7-5.  In the bottom half, the Thunder had two out and none on when four consecutive singles tied the score.  Carmen Angelini and Gamel had the RBIs.

Key inning #3:  The twelfth.  The score was tied at seven.  A walk and an error on a bunt put runners on first and second with none out.  Another bunt moved the runners to second and third and Hanson hit a sacrifice fly to give New Britain an 8-7 lead.  In the bottom half, again the Thunder had two out and none on.  This time they put together three consecutive singles and an error allowed the winning run to score.

Prospect watch:  Miguel Sano was 0-for-4 with three walks.

FORT MYERS 7, PALM BEACH 1 IN FORT MYERS

Batting stars:  Stephen Wickens was 2-for-4 with a double.  Byron Buxton was 2-for-4 and scored twice.  Levi Michael was 1-for-2 with a walk and scored once.

Pitching stars:  Matthew Summers pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks with four strikeouts.  Chad Rodgers pitched a perfect inning with one strikeout.  Tyler Jones struck out one in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and no walks.

Opposition stars:  Patrick Wisdom was 2-for-4.  Jonathan Rodriguez was 1-for-2 with two walks and scored once.

Key inning:  The eighth.  The Miracle already led 3-1 when they struck for four to put the game away.  Two singles and a ground out put runners on second and third with two out.  Kennys Vargas doubled in two and Matt Koch hit a two-run homer to make the score 7-1.

Prospect watch:  Dalton Hicks was 0-for-3 with an RBI.  Vargas was 1-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.

KANE COUNTY 9, CEDAR RAPIDS 1 IN CEDAR RAPIDS

Batting stars:  None.  The Kernels had only four hits, all singles.

Pitching stars:  None.  Each pitcher allowed at least two runs.

Opposition stars:  Ex-Twin Scott Baker started and pitched five shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.  Jeimer Candelario was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double, and a three-run homer, scoring three times.

Key inning:  The third.  It was a scoreless tie.  Trevor Gretzky and Gioskar Amaya singled with one out.  With two down, Candelario hit a three-run homer to give the Cougars a 3-0 lead.

Prospect watch:  Jorge Polanco was 1-for-4.  Adam Brett Walker II was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Jose Berrios pitched five innings, giving up five runs on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

ELIZABETHTON 5, PULASKI 1 IN ELIZABETHTON

Batting stars:  Logan Wade was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Zach Granite was 1-for-3 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in one.

Pitching stars:  Kuo Hua Lo pitched six innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks with three strikeouts.  Ethan Mildren struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.  Luke Bard pitched a perfect inning.

Opposition stars:  Isliexel Gonzalez pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, allowing one hit and no walks with two strikeouts.

Key inning:  The fifth.  The Twins already led 2-1.  They opened the inning with singles by Stuart Turner, Romy Jimenez, Wade, and Granite to make the score 4-1.  A wild pitch later in the inning put the Twins ahead 5-1.

Prospect watch:  Zach Larson was 0-for-3.

GCL ORIOLES 8, GCL TWINS 1 AT ORIOLES

Batting star:  Chad Christensen was 2-for-4 with a home run, his third.

Pitching stars:  Seth Wagner struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.  Josh Guyer pitched a scoreless inning despite giving up one hit and two walks.

Opposition stars:  Stefan Crichton pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.  Oswill Lartiguez was 2-for-2 with a walk, a double, and a triple, scoring twice and driving in three.  Randolph Gassaway was 2-for-4 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once.

Key inning:  The second.  It was a scoreless tie.  Singles by Yariel Vargas and Jonah Heim put runners on the corners with none out.  A sacrifice fly scored one, a two-out double by Oscar Vasquez put two men in scoring position, and a Josh Hart single made the score 3-0.

Prospect watch:  Alex Swim was 0-for-4.  Sam Gibbons started and pitched three innings, giving up three runs on six hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
