Venezuelan View: Games of 10/20

A rough day for Twins pitchers.  Comebacks fall short in three games.

MAGALLANES 12, ARAGUA 10 IN MAGALLANES

Twins:  Mark Hamburger (Aragua) pitched 1.1 innings, giving up four runs on four hits and one walk with one strikeout.  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) did not retire anyone, giving up three runs on three hits and a walk.

Aragua:  Jim Murphy (Philadelphia) was 3-for-4 with a walk and scored twice.  Jose Martinez (Houston) was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run (his second), scoring twice and driving in four.  Hector Gimenez was 2-for-5 with a home run and two RBIs.

Magallanes:  Rougned Odor was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer and scored twice.  Darwin Perez (Oakland) was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Mario Lisson was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.

The game:  Aragua scored four in the first and two in the third to take a 6-0 lead, but Magallanes came back with eight in the bottom of the third.  Seven singles and a three-run homer by Odor produced the runs.  Aragua cut it to 8-7 in the fifth, but Magallanes came back with two in the fifth and two in the sixth to make it 12-7.  It stayed that way until the ninth, when Aragua came back with three.  They had the tying run on base with one out.

ANZOATEGUI 8, ZULIA 7 IN ZULIA

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-5 with a double.  Virgil Vasquez (Zulia) pitched two innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks.

Anzoategui:  Leslie Anderson (Tampa Bay) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Balbino Fuenmayor was 2-for-4 with a grand slam, his second homer of the season.  Jose Castillo was 2-for-5, scoring once and driving in one.

Zulia:  Felix Perez (Cincinnati) was 4-for-5 with a three-run homer, his second.  Jose Flores was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Mark Minicozzi (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.

The game:  Anzoategui scored six in the second to take a 7-0 lead.  It was 8-5 after eight.  In the ninth, Zulia scored twice and got the tying run to second base with two out.

CARACAS 6, MARGARITA 0 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Antoan Richardson (Margarita) was 1-for-4.

Caracas:  Daniel Mayora was 2-for-2 and scored twice.  Carlos Rivero (Washington) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Yoanner Negrin (Cubs) pitched five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

Margarita:  The team had only three hits, all singles.

The game:  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) hit a three-run homer in the third to give Caracas a 4-0 lead.

LARA 3, LA GUAIRA 1 IN LA GUAIRA

Lara:  Joe Thurston was 3-for-4 with a double and scored once.  Raul Rivero struck out five in five shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.

La Guaira:  Alex Cabrera was 3-for-4 with two doubles and scored once.  Edgmer Escalona (Colorado) pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Lara scored one in the first and two in the eighth.  The lone La Guaira run came in the ninth.  La Guaira put runners on first and second with two out.
