Mexican Matchups: Games of 10/17

A good day for Ronnier Mustelier in a doubleheader.  A Rivera v. Rivera matchup in Hermosillo.

NAVOJOA 3, CULIACAN 2 IN NAVOJOA (GAME 1--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Culiacan:  Ronnier Mustelier was 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI.  Alejandro Armenta pitched five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and two walks with one strikeout.

Navojoa:  Abel Martinez was 2-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Hector Velazquez struck out seven in five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and three walks.

The game:  Navojoa scored two in the first.  Culiacan scored two in the third.  It stayed tied at two until the seventh, when Kraig Binick was hit by a pitch with two out and scored on a double by Martinez.

CULIACAN 4, NAVOJOA 3 IN NAVOJOA (GAME 2--SCHEDULED 7 INNINGS)

Culiacan:  Maxwell Leon was 2-for-3 with a walk.

Navojoa:  Luis Fonseca was 3-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Salvador Robles pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and a walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Navojoa scored two in the fourth to go ahead 3-2.  It stayed that way until the seventh, when a walk, a hit batsman, and a walk loaded the bases with one out and Ronnier Mustelier hit a two-run single to put Culiacan ahead.  Navojoa got the tying run to second with one out.

GUASAVE 7, MAZATLAN 1 IN GUASAVE

Mazatlan:  Issmael Salas was 2-for-4 with a double.  Ruben Mateo was 2-for-4.

Guasave:  Kalian Sams was 3-for-4 with two home runs and four RBIs.  Jose Felix (Texas) was 2-for-3 with a double and scored twice.  Josh Geer (San Diego) pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and two walks.

The game:  Sams hit a three-run homer in the fourth to put Guasave ahead 3-0 and the lead was never threatened.

HERMOSILLO 6, LOS MOCHIS 3 IN HERMOSILLO

Los Mochis:  Brian Burgamy was 2-for-4 with a home run.  Sergio Perez was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Abraham Rivera pitched five innings, giving up one run on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.

Hermosillo:  Efren Navarro was 2-for-4 with a home run and four RBIs.  Oscar Rivera pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Los Mochis scored two in the seventh to tie the score at seven.  In the eighth, a single, an error, and an infield single loaded the bases with one out.  Navarro then delivered a two-run single to put Hermosillo ahead 5-3.  A bases-loaded walk provided an insurance run in the same inning.
