Well, this series will at least match the ten-year average in number of games. I'm cheering for the Cardinals, but took no joy in Breslow's struggles.

More gold from Jon Bois, this time on Brett Favre lacin' em up one last time.
Much like his stories on Tebow, even if you told yourself you'd never read anything more on the subject, read this.
Every day they make a new internet, and it seems that Mr. Bois wins that new internet at least once a week.
Also Bo Jackson is making tacos.
Classic stuff.
While looking at the comment section I suddenly felt very old and out of touch.
That's just a new function that sbnation has.
Comments in that format trigger the "gif oracle" program to bring up a gif from the sbnation gif oracle library that's supposed to be related but also kindof randomized.
Comment section there (at least away from the team-specific channels) is a whole lot better than most places, probably because of fans of stuff like Mr. Bois and Spilly.
That might be the greatest comment function ever conceived. Just needs a larger library of gifs.
I think you're forgetting about
As for the size of the library, I think it's in progress.
I've been diving into the athletic failures area. Seems like the library is larger than I thought, so my apologies.
(There should still probably be a whole Raul Ibanez section, though.)
There is a Starlin Castro section, so...
Also, NFL believes that any unaltered gif is intellectual property infringement that they are not willing to allow without lawsuit.
So sbnation has to put stupid captions on the NFL ones for legal reasons.
Sweet Caroline was no big deal, they can have it, but now Red Sox fans are trying to ruin Three Little Birds for me, and that I cannot forgive.
I hear you, yet I support more crowd-initiated singing at sporting events.
I'm with you both. I kind-of like that Fenway doesn't do a whole lot (any) prompting of the crowd for cheers and whatnot. At least, I think I heard that in the past few days.
How do they use it? Like "Ducks on the Pond" or something?
They sing/chant it when Victorino is at-bat.
The guy turns 33 next month and is owed $26 million more over two years. Seems like a problem that will solve itself eventually.
Why didn't the Nonnbery Abby nuns ever think of that with Maria?
Bloomberg estimates MLB team values. Twins rank 19th at $700 million.
after a week of obsessively checking, an acceptable (to my criteria) award travel flight finally became available again, so i booked right away this time. lady on the phone found an even better return flight than was available to the public for me. awesome.
new years in europe!
Bonne année? Prosit Neujahr? Šťastný nový rok?
Not sure what language I should be using...
pas, ja, ne.
26 years ago today.
I have the goose pimples.
Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! Woooooooooooooooooo!
Well, I know what I'll be watching for the rest of the day.
Oh, wow, Eckstein.
that is funny.
Funny for all you stat heads...the rest of us purists don't
get itfind it funny.well played.
that is more than funny. that is awesome.
a sad day for the NBA:
Sharman was also a minor league baseball player. He was an outfielder in the Dodgers' organization from 1950-53 and 1955, spending two seasons at AAA St. Paul. His minor league batting average was .281 and his slugging average was .411 (no reliable OBP stats are available).
I also just saw this note about Bill Sharman--he is the only man to have been ejected from a major league game without playing in one. He got a September call-up in 1951, but never appeared in a game. However, on September 27 of that year, a huge argument erupted during a Dodgers game and the entire bench, including Sharman, was ejected.
thanks for those additions, Padre. that's some great trivia.
seen on the Bookface today, so werd to FTLT: "Buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo buffalo buffalo Buffalo buffalo" is a grammatically correct sentence in American English.
Everyone knows that. *channels GEICO commercial*
Yep.
I say that every time I drive to Buffalo, MN.
(EAR takes retreats there about once a year.)
There's a Buffalo statue in the city, which I call the Buffalo Buffalo.
There are several of those statues

new Twins player autographed card acquisition (#148)
Ryan Pressly
Let me guess...it's a Donruss.
Donruss is no longer licensed, so I don't collect their newer stuff (they're owned by Panini now). Topps has the monopoly.
Panini? Like the sandwich?
what better name for a press?
Easter egg on MLB's website: got to a page with a 404 and you get funny error gifs. Refresh and you get a new one each time! Maybe I'm the last to discover it, but it makes me think a little better of MLBAM.
Yeah, it was mentioned here a while ago. Still, you never need an excuse to watch Canseco head-butting the baseball
I like MLBAM. Cory Schwartz, the VP of stats at mlb.com, was the one that pushed to open the PitchF/X data.
speaking of MLB and the internet, Awful Announcing had this article up today
The NFL's online media strategy has been lapped by MLB
This is what you get for being a lifelong Vikings fan: death. and disappointment.
