Did a 6.5 mile run this morning with my peeps at Fleet Feet. Morning temps are starting to force some additional layers.
Next week is officially week 1 of my 16 week training plan for the marathon in Hyannis, MA, starting with the long run at 9 miles.
Heading down to the lair of the yanqui today to see The Nose, by Dimitri Shostokovich, at the Met - weird Opera, should be fun.
Carb loading: Italian Stuffed Shells
Garden tomatoes cooked down with roasted garlic
Shell stuffing: 2 parts Ricotta cheese; 1 part shredded mozzarella; 1 cup chopped spinach; salt+pepper
Fill al dente shells with stuffing, cover with tomato sauce and parmigiano-reggiano cheese and bake covered 375F for 20, another 15 uncovered.
Those stuffed shells sound awesome.
I survived my first half marathon today. 1:55. About 3 minutes slower than I wanted to go. I was on a pretty decent pace until the last 3 miles. 15 mile per hour wind in my face and fatigue kicked my butt.
still, congrats for powering through.
did a half-workout this morning (1 mile walk on the treadmill, 13 minutes of intervals on the bike, most of my resistance work, but not the faux kickboxing stuff, core stuff, or the stretching routine) in order to take the Girl to the movies.
tonight: bean and sweet potato burritos. I've had the pinto beans in the crock most of the day. Now frying some onions and will combine with the beans. Oven is preheating to roast some cubed sweet tater. Makes a great combination. Haven't decided on whether to make something green on the side or not.
last night, I made Bihari green beans and jasmine rice. Local favorite.
Congrats, man! You're faster than me. Some day, I'd like to break 2 hours. I'm right on the cusp, though it's not happening this time.
Congrats on the first Half, Algonad! You're faster than me as well.
I did a 7 mile run on Thursday. The weather here is great. I'm planning on 9 for tomorrow morning. I'm doing the Annapolis Half Marathon in 4 weeks.
Ran a five miler in Central Park this morning.
Now having a recovery lamb burger at Breslin pub on W29th
Very good and paired with Greenport IPA.
I ran 6 miles today, what I think is the farthest I've ever run in one go. I'm considering a half-marathon in February.
Hello all! It's been awhile. I thought I would join the fitness conversation.
I am a bit disappointed because I have been training for a marathon for the last 18 weeks and had to drop out of the Florence marathon due to a scheduling conflict. I have run both the Brussels and Amsterdam halves in preparation in satisfactory times, so I feel I was just about ready to run the full.
Even so, I am feeling incredibly healthy and currently weigh 160, a far cry from the 240 I weighed in 2009.
That being said, I just ate 800 calories worth of Belgian chocolate for lunch...
welcome back, milt. nice to see you again.
likewise
Ditto.
good to hear you're doing well. seems like marathons happen pretty regularly, so hopefully you can schedule in an alternative to run instead
The problem is it's the end of the marathon season. I think I might run a third half in Lisbon just to stay in shape. I then have plans to run a in Barcelona, Paris, and then Rome in the Spring...
I'm living a rough life right now.
My younger brother lucked into the Tokyo marathon next Feb - I may have to point him to your schedule and suggest he pick up the slack.
I've agreed to run Grandma's next year after swearing off full marathons following the '09 TC...these posts are at least partly to blame.
I have an agreement with my aunt to run the TC with her next fall.
Curious, MoT, in your training, what did you get up to for your long run?
I got up to 17.5 miles before deciding I couldn't run the full.
Edited cause I can't read.
It's November 1. Trying to get back on track. The last couple of months have been disastrous.
I think I realize that my eating patterns are somewhat of a canary in the coal mine for me. If things are bad, I probably need to sit down and reevaluate a lot of things. Things are bad. I don't even want to admit what I weigh. Sigh.
The good news is that getting control of my diet and fitness fuels a lot of other positive things in my life. I saw the new month on the calendar a few days ago and resolved that today would be the day. I hope that it is.
Welcome back - I'm in the same boat, sort-of. My weight has stayed mostly static but any fitness gains I made in preparation for the Bjorklund Half-marathon last summer are lost (and then some). As I noted above, I agreed to do the Grandma's and would like to beat my previous 26.2 time of 5:03:03. In addition, simply breaking 5 hours won't cut it...
I'm starting by training up for a 10k in White Bear on Thanksgiving Day.
I'm struggling, too. Mostly, I'm struggling with finding time to exercise (seven funerals in the last two months, with another scheduled tomorrow and one more next week). And, of course, any time you have a church event, there's lots of stuff there that's not good for the diet. I haven't gone up disastrously, but I'm not trending in the right direction, either. And with the holidays coming up, it's not looking particularly good.
