      1. I've been calling for the walk-off Catcher's Interference.
The day I stop saying that will be the day it will happen. (Like when I stopped picking the Orioles to make the playoffs.)

But if I were to change my mind, the last out will be a runner out on interference, plunked by a thrown baseball running out of the baseline.
(I'm not sure of the exact rules there, but I'm pretty sure I've got the drift of it.)

Better yet... Bases loaded, no outs, tie game, bottom of 9th or later.
Runner from third is thrown out trying to steal home. Runner from second advances as well.
Next pitch is a swinging bunt. Salty fields it cleanly right in front of home, touches home with his foot, throws to first for the force.
Run scores because Salty forgot that the force at home was off.

  1. If you look in top-left corner of the photo in this article from the Nebraska newspaper, you can see me in a grey sweatshirt and blue vest going crazy in the student section at the Gophers game.

Dang that was a good time. And I'm glad to have checked "rushing the field after a game" off of my bucket list.

    1. Until you've rushed the field after a game in the middle of a full-fledged blizzard, you haven't really lived. 1986 Harvest Bowl. Played in weather so bad, no one should have been outside. But, I was there and those of us in the student section who were foolish enough to be there ran out onto the field not because it was a big win (NDSU won them all that year), but because we'd braved the elements. Man, was that fun.

    2. That's a great shot, New Guy. My favorite expression might be the number 3 Nebraska dude in the front row. Who looks more like a gorilla, the guy with the mask or the one with the black North Face coat in the top right?

      1. The guy in the gorilla mask had a shirt that said "ULTIMATE PARTY ANIMAL," which was a massive exaggeration. During the game he only partied moderately hard.

    3. I was at the game with my middle-aged cousin and retired father...for all three of us, there was still a momentary thought of rushing the field. Then we just stood there and enjoyed it. It was a great game and I really loved that they didn't win on fluky special teams plays or lucky breaks. The Gophers played a solid game, won at the line of scrimmage and got some nice offense from their young quarterbacks. Nebraska may not be the juggernaut that it once was, but they're still the highest quality/pedigree opponent the Gophers have beaten in quite a while.

    4. I was there New Guy (in red), and even I had a lot of fun. Here's my second favoritest live event ever (behind Game 163):

  2. Apparently baseball won the ratings match-up last night, against football. The bad team helped, I'm sure, but it doesn't look like it was particularly close, as the WS had 16.68 million and SNF had 12.31 million.

This makes me very, very happy.

    1. I was just noting on Twitter that the 'baseball rating sucks' trolls are pretty quiet today.

    2. Apparently, people don't realize that the Vikings are going to win the Super Bowl.

Wouldn't it be something if the Vikings stinktastic play over the last two weeks starts a national trend away from football? I know it's not going to happen, but the thought of the Vikings helping to kill the goose that lays the golden egg is amusing to me.

      1. Eh, in a week we'll see if the Vikings even have enough juice to control the Minneapolis mayoral race.

    1. My favorite part:

Michael Beasley and Greg Oden flashed just enough preseason potential -- though it was just one dunk in Oden's case -- to make folks worry that the champs hit home runs with their bargain signings.

      I know I lol'd, anyway.

  3. Runner daughter is on the commute home from college; notified me traffic is bad, asked when the ballgame was tonight, and informed me "the radio announcer is already drunk."
