Venezuelan View: Games of 11/7

Anzoategui and Margarita both win late.  La Guaira takes the lead early.  Zulia eases away for a big win.

ANZOATEGUI 6, LARA 5 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 1-for-4.

Lara:  Guilder Rodriguez (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring once.  Red Patterson (Dodgers) pitched 5.1 innings, giving up two runs (one earned) on six hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

Anzoategui:  Jose Gil (Yankees) was 4-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in two.  Leslie Anderson (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring once.  Gorkys Hernandez was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in one.

The game:  Lara scored two in the first and still led 3-2 after six.  RBI singles by Alexi Amarista (San Diego) and Gil put Anzoategui ahead 4-3 in the seventh, but a two-run double by Tomas Perez made it 5-4 Lara after eight.  In the bottom of the ninth, Cory Aldridge homered to tie the score, Amarista doubled, and Gil singled him home to win the game.

MARGARITA 4, MAGALLANES 2 IN MAGALLANES

Twins:  Antoan Richardson (Margarita) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) pitched a perfect inning.

Margarita:  Cesar Hernandez (Philadelphia) was 2-for-3 with a walk and scored twice.  Adam Duvall (San Francisco) was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Carlos Monasterios pitched five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with a run.  David Bromberg struck out six in 5.1 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks.

The game:  Magallanes scored single runs in the third and fourth to go ahead 2-0.  Margarita got an RBI single from Duvall and scored on a wild pitch to tie it in the sixth.  Caleb Joseph doubled in two runs in the eighth to make it 4-2 Margarita.  Magallanes was retired in order in the eighth and ninth.

LA GUAIRA 4, ARAGUA 1 IN ARAGUA

Twins:  Josmil Pinto (Aragua) was 0-for-4.  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-4.  Ray Olmedo (Aragua) was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) pitched a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and one walk with one strikeout.

La Guaira:  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a run.  Eduardo Figueroa (Cubs) struck out seven in five shutout innings, giving up six hits and one walk.  Alex Cabrera was 1-for-2 with two walks and a three-run homer (his third).

Aragua:  Ronny Cedeno (San Diego) was 3-for-5 with an RBI.  Alex Romero was 2-for-4.  Luis Maza was 2-for-5.

The game:  With La Guaira leading 1-0, Cabrera hit a three-run homer in the third to make it 4-0.  The lone Aragua run came in the ninth on a homer by Jeremy Hazelbaker.

ZULIA 13, CARACAS 1 IN CARACAS

Zulia:  Henry Rodriguez (Cincinnati) was 4-for-6 with a double and a home run (his second), scoring three times and driving in four.  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 3-for-6 with a double and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one.  Roy Merritt pitched six innings, giving up one run on four hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

Caracas:  J. D. Martinez (Houston) was 2-for-3 with a home run.  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 2-for-4.

The game:  No huge innings, but Zulia scored in seven of the nine frames.  They led 5-0 after four, 7-1 after five, and 9-1 after six.
