Salt River takes an easy win in Glendale. Al-Al leads Mesa. A Surprise grand slam carries them to victory.
SALT RIVER 8, GLENDALE 1 IN GLENDALE
Twins: Eddie Rosario was 1-for-5. Max Kepler was 0-for-4. Trevor May pitched two innings, giving up one run on two hits and one walk and one strikeout.
Salt River: Kyle Parker (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a double and a three-run homer (his fourth), scoring twice. Stephen Piscotty (St. Louis) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice and driving in two. Sam Gaviglio (St. Louis) pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
Glendale: Brandon Jacobs (White Sox) was 1-for-2 with two walks and a double. Jared Mitchell (White Sox) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his fifth.
The game: Each team scored once in the first. In the fourth Piscotty homered as part of a two-run inning that put Salt River up 3-1. In the fifth, Piscotty delivered and RBI single and Parker hit a three-run homer to make it 7-1 and put the game out of reach.
MESA 4, PEORIA 0 IN PEORIA
Mesa: Albert Almora (Cubs) was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI. Addison Russell (Oakland) was 3-for-5 with a double and a run. Dallas Beeler (Cubs) pitched five innings, giving up five hits and no walks with two strikeouts.
Peoria: Austin Hedges (San Diego) was 2-for-4 with a double.
The game: Mesa scored two in the second, one on a ground out and one on a sacrifice fly, to take a 2-0 lead. Almora delivered an RBI single in the sixth and another run scored on a ground out in the ninth. Mesa loaded the bases with two out in the ninth.
SURPRISE 8, SCOTTSDALE 2 IN SCOTTSDALE
Surprise: Tyler Naquin (Cleveland) was 3-for-4 with a triple, scoring twice and driving in one. Garin Cecchini (Boston) was 3-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one. Mitch Haniger (Milwaukee) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a grand slam, his fourth homer of the season.
Scottsdale: Mason Williams (Yankees) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring once.
The game: Kyle Kubitza (Atlanta) had an RBI double to put Scottsdale on the board in the second, but Surprise came back in the third on a two-out grand slam by Haniger. Scottsdale got one back in the third on a wild pitch, but Scottsdale got two more in the fourth to make it 6-2. Scottsdale loaded the bases in the sixth but did not get a hit after that.
