ESCOGIDO 4, LICEY 0 IN LICEY
Twins: Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 2-for-3 with a walk, a double, and a triple, scoring once and driving in two.
Escogido: Eury Perez (Washington) was 2-for-4 with a run. Erick Almonte was 1-for-3 with a walk and a triple, scoring once and driving in one. Jarrett Grube (Angels) pitched six shutout innings, giving up three hits and one walk with five strikeouts.
Licey: Julio Borbon was 2-for-2 with a walk. Chris Narveson struck out six in six innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and one walk.
The game: Escogido got single runs in the third and sixth and put the game away on a Polanco two-run triple in the ninth. Licey did not get a hit until the sixth. The closest they came to scoring was the seventh, when a single, an error, and a passed ball put runners on second and third with two out.
AGUILAS 13, CIBAO 11 IN CIBAO (10 INNINGS)
Aguilas: Andy Marte was 3-for-6 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in four. Rafael Ynoa (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with three walks and a home run (his second), scoring three times. Zoilo Almonte (Yankees) was 3-f0r-6 with a double, scoring three times and driving in one.
Cibao: Marcell Ozuna (Miami) was 2-for-5 with a double and a home run, scoring twice and driving in two. Wilson Betemit (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, driving in three. Moises Sierra (Toronto) was 2-for-5 with a run and two RBIs.
The game: Aguilas led 4-2 after one inning. The team had leads of 8-2, 10-4, and 11-8. In the bottom of the ninth, Cibao loaded the bases on a single, a hit batsman, and an error. A walk brought in one, an error brought home a second, and a sacrifice fly by Alexi Casilla tied the score. In the tenth, Ynoa led off with a home run. Later in the inning, Juan Perez singled, took second on an error, stole third, and scored on a balk for an insurance run. Cibao got the leadoff man on in the bottom of the tenth but could do no more.
ORIENTE 3, ESTE 0 IN ORIENTE
Este: Jose Ramirez (Cleveland) was 3-for-4. Jim Adduci (Texas) was 2-for-4 with a double. Elih Villanueva (Miami) struck out five in five innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on two hits and one walk.
Oriente: Alex Valdez was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his fourth. Evan MacLane pitched six innings, giving up five hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game: All the runs were scored in the third inning on an error, a single, a ground out, and the Valdez two-run homer. Este brought the tying run to bat with one out in the ninth.
Random: Este out-hit Oriente 7-2.
