Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/27

Guez opens the floodgates for Mexicali.  The Fox says Los Mochis wins.  A Dennys Reyes sighting!

MEXICALI 5, NAVOJOA 3 IN NAVOJOA (11 INNINGS)

Mexicali:  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 2-for-5 with a walk and a home run (his fifth), scoring twice and driving in three.  Chris Roberson was 3-for-6 with a double and two runs.  Javier Solano struck out seven in seven innings, giving up three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks.

Navojoa:  Fernando Flores was 2-for-5 with a walk and an RBI.  Jose Chavez was 2-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Hector Velazquez struck out six in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four this and two walks.

The game:  Mexicali took a 1-0 lead in the first.  Navojoa got single runs in the second, third, and fourth to go up 3-1.  Mexicali tied it with single runs in the sixth and seventh.  There was no more scoring until the eleventh.  With two out, a single, a walk, and a passed ball put runners on second and third and Guez hit a two-run single to give Mexicali the lead.  Navojoa got a two-out single in the bottom of the eleventh.

HERMOSILLO 3, GUASAVE 2 IN HERMOSILLO

Guasave:  Zelous Wheeler (Yankees) was 3-for-4 with a double.  Leonardo Heras was 1-for-2 with three walks and an RBI.  C. J. Fick struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on five hits and two walks.

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 4-for-5.  Jose Aguilar was 2-for-2 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Dennys Reyes pitched five innings, allowing one run on four hits and five walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Guasave took a 1-0 lead in the third.  Hermosillo came back to tie it in the fifth and got two in the sixth on two doubles and a single.  Guasave got a run back in the seventh and had the bases loaded with two out, but did not threaten after that.

OBREGON 6, CULIACAN 1 IN CULIACAN

Obregon:  Barbaro Canizares was 4-for-5 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Dan Robertson (San Diego) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Oscar Rivera struck out seven in four innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks.

Culiacan:  Maxwell Leon was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Gonzalo Sanudo (Houston) pitched two shutout innings, allowing two hits and no walks with two strikeouts.  Salvador Valdez pitched 3.1 innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

The game:  Donald Lutz hit a two-run single to put Obregon up 2-0 in the top of the first.  Leon homered in the bottom of the first, but Obregon got four in the second to put it away early.  Canizares hit a two-run single in the inning.

LOS MOCHIS 8, MAZATLAN 0 IN LOS MOCHIS

Mazatlan:  Walter Ibarra (Cubs) was 2-for-3 with a double.  Ivan Terrazas was 2-for-4.  Jose Sanchez pitched two shutout innings despite giving up three hits and two walks.

Los Mochis:  Gilberto Mejia was 3-for-5 with three runs.  Jake Fox was 1-for-3 with two walks and a grand slam (his sixth homer), driving in five.  Jonathan Castellanos pitched five innings, allowing two hits and one walk with one strikeout.

The game:  Two walks, a single, and three bases-loaded walks produced three runs for Los Mochis in the third.  They added one in the fifth and Fox hit a grand slam in the sixth to put the game out of reach.
