Aguilas: Juan Lagares (Mets) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. Sho Iwasaki struck out nine in 6.2 innings, giving up one hit and two walks.
Cibao: Fabio Castro struck out seven in five shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks. Cibao had only one hit in the game, a single.
The game: The game's lone run scored in the sixth, when Santana hit a two-out double and scored on a single by Lagares. Cibao's best scoring chance came in the seventh. They had no baserunners through six innings, but in the seventh, a walk, a single, and another walk loaded the bases with two out.
ESCOGIDO 4, LICEY 3 IN LICEY
Twins: Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 1-for-4. Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-3 with a triple and a run.
Escogido: Melky Mesa was 2-for-4 and a triple, scoring twice and driving in one. Carlos Pimentel (Cubs) struck out five in five innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and one walk.
Licey: Engel Beltre (Texas) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Victor Diaz (Boston) was 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Mitch Atkins (Atlanta) retired all ten men he faced, striking out three.
The game: Hassan's RBI single and a run-scoring ground out gave Licey a 2-0 lead in the first. Escogido came back in the fourth, getting an RBI triple from Mesa, a sacrifice fly, and an RBI single by Wilkin Castillo to take a 3-2 lead. Escogido added an insurance run in the sixth and needed it, because Licey got one in the seventh on Beltre's RBI double. That was as close as Licey got to tying the score.
ORIENTE 3, ESTE 2 IN ORIENTE
Este: Joey Terdoslavich was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.
Oriente: Audy Ciriaco was 2-for-2 with two walks and a double, driving in two. Elian Herrera (Milwaukee) was 2-for-5 with a triple. Evan MacLane pitched five innings, giving up one run on five hits and no walks.
The game: With two out in the first, a single, an RBI double by Josh Whitesell, and an RBI single by Ciriaco made it 2-0 Oriente. Ciriaco doubled in a run in the third to make it 3-0. Este got on the board in the fourth on an RBI double by Terdoslavich and cut the lead to 3-2 in the seventh when a run scored on an error. Este had the tying run in scoring position in that inning, but never put a man there again.
