Mexican Matchups: Games of 11/28

Valle leads Los Mochis to the peak.  A big comeback for Guasave.  Martinez is Abel to give Navojoa a victory.

LOS MOCHIS 2, MAZATLAN 1 IN LOS MOCHIS (10 INNINGS)

Mazatlan:  Blake Gailen was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.  Alberto Carreon was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Ryan Hinson (Atlanta) pitched seven innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with four strikeouts.

Los Mochis:  Sebastian Valle (Philadelphia) was 2-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI.  Thomas Melgarejo struck out seven in six innings, allowing one run on four hits and one walk.

The game:  Los Mochis got on the board in the first inning on a Jake Fox RBI single.  Gailen singled in a run in the fifth to tie it.  It stayed tied until the tenth, when Yancarlo Angulo singled, went to second on a walk, and scored on a ground-rule double by Valle.

GUASAVE 6, HERMOSILLO 5 IN HERMOSILLO

Guasave:  Jesus Cota was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs.  Zelous Wheeler (Yankees) was 1-for-2 with a two-run homer, his eighth.  James Avery struck out four in three shutout innings, giving up no hits and one walk.

Hermosillo:  Jerry Owens was 3-for-5 with a run.  Heber Gomez was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Carlos Gastelum was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Jesse Gutierrez had a two-run single as part of a four-run first to give Hermosillo a 4-0 lead.  Gastelum's RBI single in the third made it 5-0.  Guasave got on the board in the fourth on Wheeler's two-run homer.  They added a pair in the fifth on a wild pitch and an RBI single by Leonardo Heras to make it 5-4.  In the seventh Cota doubled and scored on an error to tie it up.  Mark Hamilton led off the ninth with a home run to complete the come-from-behind win for Guasave.  Hermosillo went down in order in the bottom of the ninth.

CULIACAN 4, OBREGON 2 IN CULIACAN

Obregon:  Dan Robertson (San Diego) was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.  Iker Franco was 3-for-3 with a walk.

Culiacan:  Ronnier Mustelier (Yankees) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Alejandro Armenta struck out five in 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and five walks.

The game:  Each team scored in the fourth.  Culican took a 2-1 lead in the fifth on Mustelier's RBI single, but Obregon tied it in the sixth on an RBI single by Alfredo Amezaga.  Johan Limonta put Culiacan back ahead in the bottom of the sixth with an RBI double and a sacrifice fly brought home an insurance run.  Obregon got runners to second and third with two out in the eighth.

NAVOJOA 9, MEXICALI 5 IN NAVOJOA

Mexicali:  Oscar Robles was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI.  Gil Velazquez (Miami) was 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs.  Russell Branyan was 2-for-4 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in one.

Navojoa:  Jose Chavez was 3-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring three times and driving in one.  Abel Martinez was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring twice and driving in two.  Rolando Acosta was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fourth.

The game:  Navojoa scored a pair in the first to take a 2-0 lead.  Mexicali cut it to 2-1 in the fourth and took a 4-2 lead in the fifth on a walk and four singles.  Navajoa came right back in the bottom of the fifth, with Martinez getting a two-run single in the middle of a four-run inning that put Navojoa ahead 6-4.  Navojoa got one in the seventh and two in the eighth to put the game out of reach.
