A good day for Daniel Ortiz.  Ex-Twin Aaron Bates comes through for Caguas.

CAGUAS 5, MAYAGUEZ 3 IN CAGUAS

Twins:  Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3 with a walk.  Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-2 with two walks and two runs.  Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 2-for-4.

Mayaguez:  Martin Maldonado (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a home run and three RBIs.  Hiram Burgos (Milwaukee) struck out four in four shutout innings, giving up two hits and two walks.

Caguas:  Johnny Monell (Baltimore) was 2-for-3 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Miguel Abreu was 2-for-4.  Luis Cruz (Houston) pitched 4.2 innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Maldonado singled in a run in the fourth to give Mayaguez a 1-0 lead, but Caguas tied it in the fifth on two singles and two infield outs.  Each team scored two in the sixth.  In the seventh, Aaron Bates hit a two-out, two-run single to put Caguas in front to stay.  The last seven Mayaguez batters were retired.
