Dominican Digest: Games of 12/3

Rough days for Twins players.  Two one-run games.

AGUILAS 4, ORIENTE 3 IN ORIENTE

Twins:  Danny Santana (Aguilas) was 0-for-5.

Aguilas:  Rafael Ynoa (Colorado) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in one.  Juan Perez (San Francisco) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in one.  Lorenzo Barcelo pitched six innings, giving up one run on six hits and no walks with five strikeouts.

Oriente:  Junior Lake (Cubs) was 3-for-4 with a double and an RBI.  Elian Herrera (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a run.  Juan Diaz (Miami) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

The game:  Hector Luna singled in a run in the first to give Aguilas a 1-0 lead.  An RBI double by Perez and another run-scoring single by Luna made it 3-0 after five, and Ynoa doubled in a run in the sixth to make it 4-0.  A single and three wild pitches put Oriente on the board in the sixth, and they got back in the game in the eighth when a run scored on an error and another scored on a ground out to make it 4-3.  In the ninth, Oriente put runners on second and third with two out, but a strikeout and a fly out ended the game.

ESCOGIDO 4, CIBAO 1 IN CIBAO

Twins:  Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 0-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 0-for-4.

Escogido:  Pedro Ciriaco (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Fernando Martinez was 2-for-4 with a double.  Jason Bergmann struck out four in four innings, giving up one run on four hits and one walk.

Cibao:  Francisco Peguero was 2-for-4 with a double.  Alexander Guerrero (Dodgers) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Trevor Reckling pitched 2.2 scoreless innings, giving up no hits but four walks.

The game:  Guerrero doubled in a run in the second to give Cibao a 1-0 lead.  The lead held up until the fifth.  The first two batters were retired, but then came a walk, a single, an RBI single by Ciriaco to tie the score, a two-run double by Melky Mesa to give Escogido the lead, and an RBI single by C. J. Cron (Angels) to make it 4-1.  The only scoring threat Cibao had after that was in the eighth, when they loaded the bases with two out.

ESTE 6, LICEY 5 IN LICEY

Este:  Pedro Feliz was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, driving in two.  Joey Terdoslavich was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, scoring twice.  Hector Gomez (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.

Licey:  Alex Hassan (Boston) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Rymer Liriano (San Diego) was 1-for-4 with a home run.  Bryan Holaday (Detroit) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.

The game:  Licey got one in the third to take a 1-0 lead.  Este came back in the fourth on a homer by Terdoslavich, an RBI triple by Gomez, and a run-scoring single by Cesar Puello (Mets) to go ahead 3-1.  Licey tied it in the bottom of the fourth on a Yamaico Navarro (Yankees) RBI double and Hassan's run-scoring single.  Este got two in the fifth to go up 5-3, but Licey came back with single runs in the fifth and sixth to tie it again.  In the eighth, Feliz hit a one-out home run to put Este in the lead to stay.  The last ten Licey batters were retired.
