A rough day for Twins players. A one-hitter in Mayaguez.
CAGUAS 3, MAYAGUEZ 0 IN MAYAGUEZ
Twins: Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-2 with a walk. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3.
Caguas: Edgardo Baez was 2-for-4 with a home run. Luis Mateo (St. Louis) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run. John Brownell pitched seven innings, giving up one hit and two walks with six strikeouts.
Mayaguez: Jonathan Albaladejo struck out six in six innings, allowing two runs on six hits and a walk.
The game: It was scoreless until the fifth, when Baez homered to make it 1-0. Jamie Ortiz hit an RBI triple in the sixth to make it 2-0 and a run scored in the ninth on a ground out to make it 3-0. Mayaguez had only one hit, a two-out single in the third inning. They did get a man to third base in the eighth on a walk, a wild pitch, and a ground out.
PONCE 9, SANTURCE 3 IN PONCE
Santurce: Jeff Dominguez was 2-for-4 with a walk and a triple, scoring twice. Jack Lopez (Kansas City) was 2-for-4 with a walk. Jonathan Singleton (Houston) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run.
Ponce: Benji Gonzalez (Pittsburgh) was 3-for-4 with a double and three runs. Jordan Lennerton (Detroit) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Eddie Camacho struck out three in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and three walks.
The game: Ponce took a 2-0 lead in the first on a pair of sacrifice flies. Each team scored twice in the third. A two-run double by Jon Garcia (Dodgers) capped a three-run fifth for Ponce and gave the team a 7-2 lead. Santurce loaded the bases in the sixth but never threatened to get back into the game after that.
