Perth: Tucker Nathans was 3-for-4 with a double and a home run, driving in two. Mike Ekstrom struck out eight in eight shutout innings, giving up three hits and two walks.
Brisbane: Justin O'Conner (Tampa Bay) was 2-for-4 with an RBI. David Sutherland was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Alex Kaminsky pitched six innings, allowing two runs on three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
The game: Nathans homered in the first to give Perth a 1-0 lead. Nathans struck again in the sixth with an RBI double to make it 2-0. Perth added a run in the eighth. The lone Brisbane run scored in the ninth. They had the bases loaded with one out, but a double play ended the game.
MELBOURNE 7, ADELAIDE 0 IN MELBOURNE
Adelaide: Stefan Welch (Pittsburgh) was 2-for-4 with a double. Jeremy Cresswell was 1-for-3 with a double.
Melbourne: Ryan Casteel (Oakland) was 3-for-4 with a home run (his third) and four RBIs. Tyler Massey (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with two runs and an RBI. Joe Burns (Texas) pitched six innings, allowing three hits and one walk with four strikeouts.
The game: Melbourne broke a scoreless tie with five runs in the third and Adelaide never threatened to get back into the game. Casteel hit a three-run homer in the inning. Adelaide did not get a man past second base.
SYDNEY 11, CANBERRA 4 IN CANBERRA
Sydney: Guy Edmonds was 2-for-3 with two walks and a double, scoring three times and driving in one. Joey DeMichele (White Sox) was 2-for-6 with a double, scoring once and driving in three. Connor Whalen pitched seven innings, giving up one run on two hits and three walks with three strikeouts.
Canberra: Robbie Perkins (Colorado) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer, his second. Casey Frawley was 1-for-3 with a walk and a home run, his fourth.
The game: Sydney scored one in the third and two in the fourth to go ahead 3-0. Canberra got on the board with one in the bottom of the fourth, but Syndey put up a four-spot in the sixth to take control of the game. DeMichele hit a two-run double in the inning. It was 11-1 after eight before Canberra got three runs in the ninth.
