Mexican Matchups: Games of 12/6

A pair of solo homers was enough for Obregon.  One two-run homer was enough for Los Mochis.  A big inning settled things in Mexicali.

OBREGON 2, NAVOJOA 1 IN OBREGON

Navojoa:  Luis Fonseca was 3-for-4 with a run.  Genaro Andrade was 2-for-3 with an RBI.  Jose Oyervidez struck out seven in seven innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.

Obregon:  Donald Lutz was 1-for-2 with a home run, his fourth.  Albino Contreras was 1-for-1 with a home run, his second.  Arturo Lopez (San Diego) pitched six innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

The game:  Andrade singled in a run in the second to give Navojoa a 1-0 lead.  It held up until the sixth, when Lutz hit a one-out homer to tie the score.  It stayed tied until the ninth, when Contreras pinch-hit for Lutz and hit a home run to lead off the ninth.

LOS MOCHIS 3, GUASAVE 1 IN LOS MOCHIS

Guasave:  Japhet Amador (Houston) was 1-for-2 with two walks.  Jesus Lopez was 1-for-3 with a home run.  Sergio Mora pitched six innings, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks with three strikeouts.

The game:  Angulo hit a two-run homer in the second to give Los Mochis a lead it would not relinquish.  Lopez homered in the third to make it 2-1, but that was as close as Guasave would get.  Valle's RBI single in the seventh gave Los Mochis an insurance run.

MAZATLAN 4, HERMOSILLO 0 IN MAZATLAN

Hermosillo:  Carlos Gastelum was 2-for-3 with a triple and a walk.  Trent Oeltjen was 1-for-1 with a double.

Mazatlan:  Issmael Salas was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Erick Rodriguez was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Walter Silva pitched 5.1 innings, allowing six hits and two walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Rodriguez singled in a run and an infield out scored another in the second to give Mazatlan a 2-0 lead.  Walter Ibarra (Cubs) doubled in a run in the fourth and Salas hit an RBI double in the seventh.  Hermosillo's best scoring chance came in the sixth, when they had runners on second and third with none out, but a popup, a strikeout, and a ground out ended the threat.

MEXICALI 11, CULIACAN 2 IN MEXICALI

Culiacan:  Jorge Cantu was 2-for-4 with a double and a run.  Ronnier Mustelier (Yankees) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run.  Emmanuel Valdez was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.

Mexicali:  Oscar Robles was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring twice and driving in four.  Ben Guez (Detroit) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Edgar Osuna pitched 5.2 innings, allowing one run on three hits and two walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  An error, five consecutive singles, and a double plated six runs in the second and put Mexicali in control early.  They built a 10-0 lead through five before Culiacan finally scored two in the sixth.
