Venezuelan View: Games of 12/6

Almost all the Twins played in one game.  Good days for Oswaldo Arcia and Eduardo Escobar.  No earned runs in Zulia.

LA GUAIRA 12, ARAGUA 11 IN LA GUAIRA

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 2-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Josmil Pinto (Aragua) was used as a pinch-hitter and was 0-for-1.  Dakota Watts (Aragua) faced two batters and walked both of them, getting charged with two runs.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up no runs on one hit one walk.  Shairon Martis (La Guaira) pitched one inning, giving up one run on two hits and one walk.  Yorman Landa (La Guaira) pitched two-thirds of an inning, giving up two runs on two hits and no walks with two strikeouts.

Aragua:  Hector Gimenez was 3-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his tenth), scoring three times and driving in two.  Yangervis Solarte was 3-for-6 with a run and three RBIs.  Alex Romero was 0-for-1 with four walks and two runs.

La Guaira:  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 4-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in four.  Heiker Meneses (Boston) was 2-for-3 with a triple, scoring once and driving in two.  Jamie Romak (Dodgers) was 2-for-5 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in one.

The game:  Aragua led 3-1 after one, but La Guaira came back with three in the second to make it 4-3 La Guaira.  Aragua tied it up in the fourth on a sacrifice fly, but in the bottom of the fourth Sanchez hit a two-run double in the middle of a four-run inning to go ahead 8-4.  They built the lead to 10-4 after five, but then it was Aragua's turn to come back, getting one in the sixth and five in the seventh to tie it at ten.  Solarte had a two-run single in the inning.  It stayed tied until the ninth.  Gimenez homered in the top of the ninth to give Aragua an 11-10 lead, but in the bottom of the ninth two walks and an error tied the score.  An intentional walk filled the bases and with two out, Sanchez singled to right to end the game.

ANZOATEGUI 14, MAGALLANES 4 IN ANZOATEGUI

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 4-for-4 with a double and a run.

Magallanes:  Lew Ford was 2-for-4 with a home run, his fifth.  Renny Osuna was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Jesus Sanchez (Miami) struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and one walk.

Anzoategui:  Jose Castillo was 2-for-5 with a home run (his seventh) and three RBIs.  Alexi Amarista (San Diego) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Anthony Capra struck out six in five innings, allowing two runs on five hits and one walk.

The game:  Magallanes scored in the first on a Ford homer, but Anzoategui quickly took control.  An RBI ground out and a Castillo single made it 2-1 after one, a three-run homer by Niuman Romero made it 5-1 after two, and an RBI double by Amarista took it to 6-1 after three.  It was 9-2 after four, and a five-run eighth took away what little chance Magallanes still had.

ZULIA 1, CARACAS 0 IN ZULIA (11 INNINGS)

Caracas:  Ramon Cabrera (Detroit) was 3-for-4 with a double.  Guillermo Moscoso struck out six in six shutout innings, giving up six hits and one walk.

Zulia:  Freddy Galvis (Philadelphia) was 3-for-5.  Jose Flores was 2-for-4 with a walk.  Wilfredo Boscan pitched seven innings, allowing six hits and one walk with five strikeouts.

The game:  Nobody even got to third base until the fifth, when Zulia put runners on first and third with two out.  Caracas put runners on first and third with two out in the tenth, and Zulia had runners on second and third with two out in the tenth.  In the eleventh, Francisco Arcia (Yankees) led off with a single, went to second on a wild pitch, and was bunted to third.  A pair of intentional walks followed.  An error then brought home the winning run.

LARA 7, MARGARITA 2 IN LARA

Margarita:  Manny Pina was 2-for-4 with a double.  David Peralta (Arizona) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Lara:  Robert Perez was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run, driving in three.  Luis Valbuena (Cubs) was 3-for-3 with a walk and two runs.  Chris Jakubauskas pitched 5.2 innings, allowing two runs on six hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Paulo Orlando hit a two-run triple in the first and scored on a ground out to give Lara a 3-0 lead.  It was 4-1 going to the bottom of the fifth, when Lara scored three more on an error and a two-run single by Perez.  Margarita never threatened to get back into the game.
