Venezuelan View: Games of 12/12

A good day for Eduardo Escobar.  Deolis Guerra and Shairon Martis pitch well.  A tenth-inning comeback for Magallanes.

ARAGUA 5, LARA 4 IN ARAGUA (10 INNINGS)

Twins:  Oswaldo Arcia (Aragua) was 1-for-4 with a walk and a double, driving in one.  Edgar Ibarra (Aragua) struck out four in two innings, giving up one run on one hit and no walks.

Lara:  Jairo Perez was 1-for-4 with a home run, his sixth.  Luis Valbuena (Cubs) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a double, driving in one.  Edwin Escobar (San Francisco) pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits and four walks with two strikeouts.

Aragua:  Wilson Ramos (Washington) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run, his third.  Yangervis Solarte was 2-for-5 with walk, scoring once and driving in one.  Ronny Cedeno (San Diego) was 1-for-4 with two walks and an RBI.

The game:  Each team scored once in the first.  Lara got single runs in the second and fifth to go ahead 3-1.  In the eighth, Hector Gimenez homered to lead off the inning and Cedeno delivered a two-out RBI single to tie the score.  Perez homered in the top of the ninth to give Lara a 4-3 lead but Ramos answered with a homer in the bottom of the ninth to tie it again.  Lara loaded the bases with one out in the top of the tenth but did not score.  In the bottom of the tenth, Solarte singled in the winning run with two out.

MAGALLANES 6, ANZOATEGUI 4 IN MAGALLANES (10 INNINGS)

Twins:  Eduardo Escobar (Anzoategui) was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Deolis Guerra (Magallanes) struck out two in a scoreless inning, giving up one hit and one walk.

Anzoategui:  Gorkys Hernandez (Kansas City) was 1-for-1 with a walk and a double.  Niuman Romero was 1-for-1 with a double, scoring once and driving in one.  Toru Murata (Cleveland) pitched 5.1 scoreless innings, giving up six hits and no walks with three strikeouts.

Magallanes:  Adonis Garcia (Yankees) was 3-for-5 with a double and a three-run homer (his sixth), scoring twice.  Robinson Chirinos (Texas) was 2-for-3 with a double and a run.  Orangel Arenas (Angels) pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  An RBI single by Cory Aldridge put Anzoategui on the board in the first and a bases-loaded hit batsman made it 2-0 after two.  In the seventh, a sacrifice fly and an Erold Andrus RBI single tied the score.  In the tenth, Romero doubled in one and Escobar singled in another to give Anzoategui a 4-2 lead.  In the bottom of the tenth, Lew Ford singled in a run and with two out, Garcia hit a walk-off three-run homer.

LA GUAIRA 10, MARGARITA 4 IN MARGARITA

Twins:  Shairon Martis (La Guaira) pitched a perfect inning.

La Guaira:  Rene Reyes was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Carlos Sanchez (White Sox) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double, scoring twice and driving in three.  Mario Hollands (Philadelphia) pitched four innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Margarita:  Nate Tenbrink (Seattle) was 2-for-4 with a home run, scoring twice and driving in two.  Carlos Rivero was 2-for-3 with a run.  Wilmer Flores (Mets) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double.

The game:  Margarita scored one in the first on an infield out.  The 1-0 lead held up until the fifth, when Sanchez brought home two on a single-and-error and a sacrifice fly made it 3-1.  La Guaira took control with a six-run sixth.  Sanchez had a two-run double in the inning, which also featured two hit batsmen and a bases-loaded walk.

ZULIA 8, CARACAS 1 IN CARACAS

Zulia:  Sandy Leon (Washington) was 3-for-4 with two doubles, scoring once and driving in two.  Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring once and driving in two.  Austin Bibens-Dirkx (Toronto) pitched four innings, giving up one run on three hits and two walks with two strikeouts.

Caracas:  Bobby Abreu was 3-for-4 with a double.  Jesus Aguilar (Cleveland) was 1-for-4 with a  home run, his seventeenth.

The game:  In the second, Inciarte's two-run single capped a three-run inning to give Zulia the early 3-0 lead.  It was 5-0 before Caracas scored its lone run on Aguilar's fourth-inning homer.  Luis Ugueto's two-run triple in a three-run seventh put the game out of reach.
