  1. Kindle Daily Deal email got Amazon two more of my hard-earned dollars. This time it's Fire In the Hole from Leonard Elmore.

What was it I said about the ever growing "To Read" list?

  2. Sounds like wifi is slacking off then!

Half a day of drizzle followed by at least 6" of snow overnight (and it's still coming down). I had BETTER see snowmen today or I'll be disappointed!
Here's Belle...I couldn't throw snowballs fast enough for her

  3. Mom's birthday surprise remained a surprise, despite 40 attendees who could have blown our cover (one of my brothers got close). It's a great time up here.

I'm realizing on this trip that Minnesota is definitely still home. I hope we're here before long.

  4. I wrote this to entertain NBBW during our last vacation. Apologies to Harry Chapin (to the tune of Taxi)

It was snowing hard in Hartford
I had to spin the French film one more time
A lady with faux fur climbed out of her Saab
    She walked in so sublime.

‘Oh, where are you coming from my lady blue
It’s a shame you ruined your dress in the snow’
She just looked pass the popcorn bin and said
    ‘Pinot Grigio’.

Something in her voice was familiar
I could swear I’d seen her before
But she said ‘I’m sure you’re mistaken’
    She didn’t say anything more.

It took a while, but as she looked at the local art
And glanced at the poster for the show
A smile seemed to come to her slowly
It was a sad smile, nothing mo’.

And she said, ‘How are you, Milton?’
I said ‘How are you, Elle?’
Through too many miles and the too little smiles
    I remember you well.

It was something from a Shire’s tale
I used to take her on day trips to the City
We learned about love in the back of the Mega Bus
The lesson hadn’t gone very pretty.

You see she was gonna do non-linear fractals
And I was gonna be a Documentarian,
She took off to dazzle Dartmouth
And I took off to find Oscar-ian.

Oh, I’ve got something inside me
    Not an entirely empty set
But I’ve been getting over integrated
Over till my lease is let.

Baby’s so high - she left Accounting
    Underwriting is now her call
I’ll tell you why she’s crying
She’s now living between zero and one - aren’t we all?

I left the projection booth - we didn’t talk much more
The foreign film was done, the credits played
She gave me twenty dollars for a five dollar pour
And said ‘Milton, keep the change.’

Another guy might have been angry
Another man might have been hurt
Another dude wouldn’t have let Elle go
I stashed the bill in my Portlandia shirt.

    Elle walked away in silence
    It’s strange, you never know
We’d both gotten what we’d asked for
    A long, long time ago.

She was going to do set theory
And I was going to film the scenes
She took off to find Aleph-classes
And I took off for the memes.

    And here, she’s acting happy
With her office on the fifteenth floor
And me, I’m spinning film at Real Art Ways
    Wearing black, and feeling noir.
I go flying so high, when I’m noir.

  5. Re: China on the moon. I think it's telling that it says CHINA SPACE in English on their white jackets. What are they trying to prove to whom.

  6. I would have thought a two year anniversary would have lessened the intensity of the emotions somewhat, but today has been much rougher than expected.

  7. I hope Im wrong..but gross

Mike Pelfrey agrees to 2-year deal, $11M, $3.5M performance bonuses. #twins

    1. I don't have a problem with that other than it probably eliminates the Twins from trying to sign Garza or somebody else like that but that was most likely a pipe dream anyways. If he brings back 1 WAR a year, not much of an overpay if at all. Also, the deal's not so big that the Twins won't keep him and prevent better, younger pitchers from being promoted.

Twins still have managed to keep their rotation relatively young since Correia is still the old man on the staff with 2014 being his age 33 season. Nolasco 31, Pelfrey 30 and Hughes 28. Hopefully Gibson will make the team as the fifth starter, but I imagine it will be Diamond getting the first opportunity.

      1. I have a severe dislike on the way Pelfrey pitches. He might be decent and all but his pace is SO SLOW it makes for boring baseball.

    2. Berardino is saying the Twins are still "very interested" in Bronson Arroyo. That blows me away. Not that I think Arroyo is all that great (still better than anything the Twins had last year) but that the Twins would sign four free-agent starting pitchers, even if one was here last year.

    1. I like the deal that its a minor league deal so there is no risk. I just dont know what happens if Kubel actually makes the team. Cut bait of Doumit? Trade Willingham? Is he a fulltime DH or is he going to actually going to try to play OF?

      1. Not to mention the 40-man roster. But I like it. If the Twins can turn any one of those COF/1B/DH guys into a trade piece, good for them. That's exactly what they should be doing.

  8. The Wolves are meddling, the Wild are under achieving, the Gophers BB team is in a bit of a rebuild year with a new coach, Vikings are terrible.

    So, yay.
