Twins: Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 2-for-4 with a double. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3.
Caguas: Ramon Castro was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Alberto Gonzalez (Yankees) was 1-for-3 with two walks and a run. J. Ortiz was 1-for-3 with two walks, scoring once and driving in one.
Mayaguez: Michael Taylor (Oakland) was 3-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Randy Ruiz was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fifth) and two RBIs. Hector Hernandez (St. Louis) pitched two shutout innings, allowing one hit and one walk, striking out one.
The game: Caguas scored two in the third to take a 3-1 lead. Mayaguez got one in the bottom of the third and two in the sixth to take a 4-3 lead and made it hold up.
SANTURCE 9, CAROLINA 6 IN SANTURCE
Carolina: Ruben Gotay was 4-for-5 with two doubles and two runs. Luis Matos was 3-for-5 with a double and three RBIs. Raul Rivera (Houston) struck out three in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no walks.
Santurce: Neftali Soto (Cincinnati) was 4-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in three. Jesus Lopez was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring three times and driving in one. J Rodriguez was 3-for-5 with two doubles and two RBIs.
The game: Santurce scored three in the first and four in the second to build a 7-1 lead. It was still a six-run lead, 9-3, after five. Carolina got two in the seventh and one in the ninth to make the final score look better.
