Zulia: Ernesto Mejia (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a walk and a home run (his tenth), driving in three. Ender Inciarte (Arizona) was 3-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Jose Pirela (Yankees) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
La Guaira: Salvador Perez (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 with a home run. Alex Cabrera was 2-for-4 with a walk and a double. Kendy Batista struck out two in two shutout innings, allowing one hit and no walks.
The game: An RBI groundout and a run-scoring single by Mejia gave Zulia the 2-0 lead in the first. Each team scored once in the second. In the third, Mejia hit a two-run homer to ignite a four-run inning that left Zulia in control at 7-1. La Guaira got single runs in the third and fourth but never threatened to get back into the game.
