Half the teams got all of their runs in one inning. Three out of four were winners.
LOS MOCHIS 6, CULIACAN 3 IN LOS MOCHIS
Twins: Brad Boyer (Culiacan) was 0-for-3 and was hit by a pitch.
Culiacan: Donell Linares was 2-for-3 with a walk and a home run (his second), driving in two. Maxwell Leon was 3-for-4 with a run. Francisco Campos struck out eight in six shutout innings, giving up two hits and a walk.
Los Mochis: Brian Burgamy was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, scoring once and driving in two. Yancarlo Angulo was 1-for-2 with a run and an RBI. Thomas Melgarejo pitched five innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on four hits and three walks with one strikeout.
The game: An RBI ground out put Culiacan on the board in the first inning. Linares homered in the second to make it 2-0 and delivered an RBI single in the sixth to make it 3-0. In the seventh, however, Los Mochis exploded for all six of its runs. A sacrifice fly brought in the first run, Angulo singled in the second, the tying run scored on a wild pitch, the go-ahead run scored on a bases-loaded walk, and Burgamy doubled in a pair of insurance runs. The last ten Culiacan batters were retired.
MEXICALI 6, GUASAVE 4 IN GUASAVE (12 INNINGS)
Mexicali: Oscar Robles was 2-for-5 with two home runs (his second and third) and four RBIs. Luis Juarez was 1-for-4 with a two-run homer. Oscar Villareal struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
Guasave: Jose Manuel Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a walk, a double and a two-run homer, his ninth, Leonardo Heras (Houston) was 0-for-0 with a walk and a hit-by-pitch, scoring twice. Brodie Downs retired all seven men he faced, three by strikeout.
The game: Guasave got on the board first, scoring three in the first inning on a two-run homer by Rodriguez and an RBI double by Brent Clevlen. Each team scored once in the third, leaving Guasave ahead 4-1. Juarez hit a two-run homer in the fourth to cut the lead to 4-3. It looked like that might hold up, but a sacrifice fly in the eighth tied the score. There was no more scoring until the twelfth, when Robles hit a two-out two-run homer. Guasave got a one-out single in the bottom of the twelfth but did nothing further.
OBREGON 3, NAVOJOA 2 IN OBREGON
Navojoa: John Lindsey was 2-for-4 with a home run (his fourth) and two RBIs. Jose Guadalupe Chavez was 2-for-4 with a run. Esteban Hero pitched two shutout innings, giving up no hits and no walks.
Obregon: Doug Clark was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer, his second. Robert Saucedo was 1-for-3 with a home run. Rolando Valdez struck out nine in six innings, allowing one run on four hits and two walks.
The game: Navojoa scored first on Lindsey's leadoff homer in the fourth inning. Obregon got all three of its runs in the fifth, as Saucedo led off the inning with a homer and Clark hit a two-out two-run shot. Navojoa scored once more in the eighth on Lindsey's RBI single and had men on first and second with one out, but the last five Navojoa batters were retired.
MAZATLAN 5, HERMOSILLO 2 IN HERMOSILLO
Mazatlan: Erick Rodriguez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Henry Mateo was 1-for-4 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Alberto Martinez pitched five innings, giving up two unearned runs on five hits and three walks.
Hermosillo: Heber Gomez was 3-for-4 with an RBI. Yunesky Sanchez was 1-for-3 with a walk and a run. Nathan Reed (Boston) struck out four in three shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks.
The game: After a scoreless first, Mazatlan scored all five of their runs in the second. The first run scored on a sacrifice fly, RBI singles by Rodriguez, Mateo, and Ivan Terrazas made it 4-0, and another sacrifice fly made it 5-0. Hermosillo scored both of their runs in the fourth on Gomez' RBI single and on an error. Hermosillo brought the tying run up to bat in both the fifth and the eighth but did not score.
