Playoffs, day five. Ciriaco gets serious for Escogido. Licey gets a fairly easy win.
ESCOGIDO 4, CIBAO 1 IN CIBAO
Twins: Jorge Polanco (Escogido) was 1-for-3 with an RBI. Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 0-for-2 with two walks and a run.
Escogido: Pedro Ciriaco was 3-for-5 with two doubles and three RBIs. Alfredo Marte was 1-for-4 with a double and a run. Jorge De Leon struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up one hit and no runs.
Cibao: Mayo Acosta (Tampa Bay) was 3-for-3 with a double. Alexi Casilla was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Claudio Vargas struck out five in four innings, allowing one run on four hits and no walks.
The game: An RBI ground out started the scoring in the second, putting Cibao ahead 1-0. Escogido tied it in the forth on a run-scoring single by Polanco. Ciriaco hit a two-run double in the seventh to put Escogido ahead 3-1 and he doubled in another in the ninth to make it 4-1. Cibao left the bases loaded in the second and fourth but did not threaten after that.
LICEY 7, AGUILAS 1 IN LICEY
Aguilas: Francisco Pena (Kansas City) was 1-for-3 with a double and a run. Rafael Ynoa (Colorado) was 1-for-2 with an RBI. Ricardo Nanita was 2-for-4.
Licey: Erick Aybar (Angels) was 2-for-5 with two runs and an RBI. Juan Francisco (Milwaukee) was 1-for-3 with a walk and a double, driving in two. Ramon Ortiz (Toronto) pitched 4.1 innings, allowing one run on five hits and no walks.
The game: Jamie Romak (Dodgers) singled in a run in the first and a run scored on a ground out in the second, putting Licey ahead 2-0. A sacrifice fly made it 2-1 in the third, but Francisco doubled in two in the fifth to make it 4-1 and Licey got three in the seventh to put the game out of reach.
