MEXICALI 13, CULIACAN 6 IN CULIACAN
Twins: Brad Boyer (Culiacan) was 1-for-4 with a home run.
Mexicali: Brad Snyder (Texas) was 3-for-6 with three homers and six RBIs. Xorge Carrillo (Mets) was 1-for-5 with two runs and two RBIs. Cristhian Presichi hit a pinch-hit three-run homer.
Culiacan: Luis Mauricio Suarez was 1-for-4 with a walk and a two-run homer. Maxwell Leon was 2-for-5 with a run. Luis Alfonzo Cruz was 1-for-3 with a walk and an RBI.
The game: Snyder's grand slam capped a five-run first inning that put Mexicali ahead 5-0. They still led 7-1 after three-and-a-half when Culiacan tried to get back into it with a three-run fourth, with Boyer hitting a solo homer and Suarez hitting a two-run shot. That was as close as Culiacan would come. It was 9-5 going to the eighth, then Mexicali scored four to put the game away. Carrillo singled in one and Presichi hit a three-run homer.
LOS MOCHIS 4, NAVOJOA 1 IN LOS MOCHIS
Navojoa: Wes Bankston was 1-for-4 with a run. Carlos Orrantia was 1-for-4 with an RBI. Jose Lugo pitched five shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks with four strikeouts.
Los Mochis: Ramon Orantes was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer, his second. Jake Fox was 1-for-2 with two walks and a home run. Thomas Melgarejo struck out eight in 6.1 innings, allowing an unearned run on four hits and one walk.
The game: It was scoreless until the seventh, when Orrantia's RBI single put Navojoa in front 1-0. Fox homered in the bottom of the seventh to tie it back up. In the eighth, a walk, a single, and a sacrifice fly put Los Mochis ahead 2-1 and a Orantes' two-run homer made it 4-1. Navojoa went down in order in the ninth.
GUASAVE 7, HERMOSILLO 4 IN GUASAVE
Hermosillo: Luis Alfonzo Garcia was 2-for-4 with a walk and two home runs, driving in four. Jerry Owens was 2-for-4 with a run.
Guasave: Jesus Cota was 2-for-3 with two home runs and three RBIs. Leonardo Heras (Houston) was 1-for-2 with two walks and a home run, scoring three times. Jeff Bennett pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on four hits and five walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Garcia hit a three-run homer in the first to put Hermosillo ahead 3-0. Guasave owned the rest of the game. A sacrifice fly/double play scored one in the first, and Guasave tied it in the second on Cota's two-run homer. It was tied until the fifth, when Zelous Wheeler (Yankees) singled in the go-ahead run. Cota homered again in the sixth to make it 5-3, Heras homered in the seventh to increase the lead to 6-3, and Jesus Lopez hit a home run in the eighth to make it 7-3. Garcia's homer in the ninth cut the margin to 7-4 but the tying run did not come to bat.
