Australian Audit: Games of 1/9

A good game for Logan Wade is nowhere near enough for Perth.  Luke Hughes has a big day.  Close games in Sydney and Adelaide.

PERTH 10, BRISBANE 3 IN PERTH

Twins:  Logan Wade (Brisbane) was 2-for-4 with a run.

Brisbane:  Justin O'Conner (Tampa Bay) was 1-for-4 with a double and a run.  Marcus Bradley was 1-for-3 with two walks and an RBI.  David Sutherland was 1-for-4 with a double and an RBI.

Perth:  Luke Hughes was 3-for-4 with two home runs, scoring three times and driving in four.  Brandon Tripp was 3-for-5 with a double, scoring twice and driving in two.  Jack Frawley pitched seven innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and four walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Tripp double in a run in the first to give Perth a 1-0 lead.  Perth then exploded for five in the second to put the game out of reach early.  A run scored on a ground out, Tripp singled in one, and Hughes hit a three-run homer.  Brisbane scored two in the fourth but never got closer than four runs.

SYDNEY 4, CANBERRA 3 IN SYDNEY

Canberra:  Jeremy Barnes was 5-for-5 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Jack Murphy (Toronto) was 2-for-2 with a walk and two RBIs.  Brian Grening struck out nine in 7.2 innings, giving up two runs on five hits and one walk.

Sydney:  Joshua Dean was 2-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Keon Broxton (Arizona) was 1-for-4 with a triple, scoring once and driving in one.  Craig Anderson pitched six innings, allowing two runs on eight hits and one walk with two strikeouts.

The game:  Broxton tripled in a run and scored on Dean's single in the second to put Sydney ahead 2-0.  Canberra tied it in the third on Barnes' RBi triple and a sacrifice fly.  It stayed 2-2 until the ninth, when Murphy's sacrifice fly gave Canberra a 3-2 lead.  In the bottom of the ninth, Zach Shepherd singled in the tying run and, with two out and the bases loaded, Mitch Dening singled to bring home the winning tally for Sydney.

ADELAIDE 2, MELBOURNE 0 IN ADELAIDE

Melbourne:  Jared Schelhuber (Kansas City) was 2-for-4.  Ryan Casteel (Colorado) was 1-for-3 with a walk.  Joe Burns (Texas) pitched seven innings, giving up two unearned runs on four hits and one walk with three strikeouts.

Adelaide:  Angus Roeger was 1-for-3 with a double and two RBIs.  Byron Wiley was 1-for-2 with a walk.  Kyle Brueggemann struck out nine in seven innings, allowing four hits and one walk.

The game:  It was scoreless until the seventh, when a single, an error, and a two-out two-run double by Roeger put Adelaide in the lead.  Melbourne came closest to scoring in the third and the fifth, each time putting a man on third with two out.
