MAYAGUEZ 4, PONCE 3 IN PONCE (12 INNINGS)
Twins: Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 3-for-5 with a walk and two doubles, scoring once. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 1-for-5 with a double, scoring once. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 2-for-4 with a walk.
Mayaguez: Martin Maldonado (Milwaukee) was 2-for-4 with a three-run homer. Randy Ruiz was 1-for-5 with a walk, scoring once and driving in one. Kanekoa Texeria struck out two in two shutout innings, giving up two hits and no walks.
Ponce: Jeff Dominguez was 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Henry Ramos (Boston) was 2-for-4 with a walk and an RBI. Joel Piniero pitched 6.1 scoreless innings, allowing five hits and two walks with two strikeouts.
The game: Ponce opened the scoring in the fourth on Ramos' RBI single. They got two more in the fifth on a run-scoring force out and an RBI single by Dominguez. It stayed 3-0 until the ninth, when a pair of walks was followed by Maldonado's three-run homer. In the twelfth, Rosario doubled and scored on a Randy Ruiz single. Ponce went down in order in the twelfth.
CAGUAS 4, CAROLINA 3 IN CAGUAS
Carolina: Anthony Garcia (St. Louis) was 1-for-4 with a double and two RBIs. Jose Castro was 1-for-2 with a walk and two runs. Frankie De La Cruz pitched two shutout innings, giving up one hit and one walk.
Caguas: Jorge Padilla was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI. Juan Silva (Cincinnati) was 1-for-3 with a home run. John Brownell struck out four in four shutout innings, allowing four hits and two walks.
The game: Caguas scored in the first on an RBI single by Andy Gonzalez and added one more in the fourth on Silva's homer. Carolina tied it with two in the fifth on Garcia's two-run double. There was no more scoring until the ninth, when Robinson Cancel singled in a run to put Carolina in the lead 4-3. In the bottom of the ninth, Padilla singled in the tying run and a bases-loaded walk brought home the winning run.
