Dominican Digest: Games of 1/10

Day twelve of the playoffs.  A tight game in Aguilas.  Productive outs rule in Licey.

AGUILAS 4, ESCOGIDO 3 IN AGUILAS

Twins:  Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 0-for-3.

Escogido:  Julio Lugo was 2-for-3 with a home run and two runs.  Eury Perez (Washington) was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Elih Villaneuva (Miami) struck out five in five innings, giving up two runs on six hits and no walks.

Aguilas:  Zoilo Almonte was 2-for-4 with two doubles and two runs.  Alex Valdez was 3-for-4 with an RBI.  Angel Castro (St. Louis) pitched seven innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and three walks with four strikeouts.

The game:  Aguilas took the early lead on a first-inning sacrifice fly, but Escogido went up 2-1 in the second on Perez' two-run single.  Aguilas tied it in the fifth when Juan Perez (San Francisco) doubled in a run.  It stayed tied until the eighth, when Alexis Gomez and Valdez each delivered an RBI single.  Lugo homered in the ninth to make it 4-3, but the tying run never reached base for Escogido.

LICEY 4, CIBAO 1 IN LICEY

Cibao:  Marcell Ozuna (Miami) was 2-for-4 with an RBI.  Alexi Casilla was 2-for-4 with a run.  Francisco Peguero (Baltimore) was 2-for-4 with a double.

Licey:  Ed Rogers was 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI.  Erick Aybar (Angels) was 2-for-3 with a walk and a run.  Francisley Bueno (Kansas City) pitched 5.1 innings, allowing an unearned run on eight hits and no walks with one strikeout.

The game:  Licey scored one in the second on a ground out, one in the third on a force out, and one in the fourth on a sacrifice fly to take a 3-0 lead.  Cibao scored one in the sixth on a force out.  Licey got the run back in the eighth on a sacrifice fly.
