CIBAO 6, ESCOGIDO 5 IN CIBAO (10 INNINGS)
Twins: Pedro Florimon (Escogido) was 2-for-5 with a run and an RBI.
Escogido: Eury Perez (Washington) was 3-for-5 with a double. Pedro Ciriaco (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 with a walk and a run. Alfredo Marte (Arizona) was 1-for-1 with a walk and a double, driving in two.
Cibao: Josh Whitesell was 3-for-5 with a double and two RBIs. Leury Garcia (White Sox) was 3-for-4 with a walk and two runs. Zach Kroenke struck out five in five innings, allowing one run on six hits and no walks.
The game: Cibao got RBI singles from Francisco Peguero (Baltimore) and Whitesell to take a 2-0 lead in the first. Hector Gomez (Milwaukee) homered in the second to make it 3-0. Each team scored once in the fifth. Marte doubled in a run in the eighth, but it was still 4-2 Cibao. In the top of the ninth, a single, an error, and four walks brought home three runs and put Escogido ahead 5-4. With one out in the bottom of the ninth, an error on a rundown play tied the score. In the tenth, Peguero led off with a walk and scored from first on Whitesell's double to end the game.
LICEY 4, AGUILAS 1 IN LICEY
Twins: Dan Rohlfing (Licey) was 1-for-4.
Aguilas: Joey Terdoslavich (Atlanta) was 2-for-4 with a run. Kelvin Villa pitched three innings, giving up one run on three hits and no walks.
Licey: Eugenio Velez (Milwaukee) was 3-for-4 with three RBIs. Emilio Bonifacio (Kansas City) was 2-for-5 with a double and an RBI. Esmil Rogers (Toronto) pitched six shutout innings, allowing two hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
The game: Licey opened the scoring in the second on an RBI single by Bonifacio. In the fourth, Felix Perez (Cincinnati) tripled and scored on a Velez single to make it 2-0. Aguilas got one in the seventh, but a Velez two-run single in the eighth put Licey in control of the game. Aguilas went down in order in the ninth.
