CAGUAS 1, PONCE 0 IN CAGUAS
Ponce: Jeff Dominguez was 3-for-4 with a double. Reymond Fuentes (San Diego) was 2-for-4. Giancarlo Alvarado pitched 6.2 innings, giving up one run on four hits and two walks with four strikeouts.
Caguas: Rey Navarro (Cincinnati) was 2-for-2 with a walk and a home run. Efrain Nieves (Toronto) struck out seven in 5.2 innings, allowing four hits and two walks.
The game: The game's lone run scored on Navarro's homer in the seventh. Ponce loaded the bases in the fourth with one out, but a double play ended the threat. They had men on first and second with one out in the eighth, but again were thwarted by a double play.
CAROLINA 4, MAYAGUEZ 0 IN CAROLINA
Twins: Eddie Rosario (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3. Kennys Vargas (Mayaguez) was 0-for-3. Daniel Ortiz (Mayaguez) was 1-for-3.
Mayaguez: The team had only two hits, both singles, and drew no walks.
Carolina: Jesus Feliciano was 2-for-4 with a two-run homer. Enrique Hernandez (Houston) was 2-for-4 with a double, scoring once and driving in one. Willie Collazo pitched a complete game, allowing two hits and no walks with four strikeouts.
The game: All the runs were scored in the first inning. Osvaldo Martinez (Dodgers) doubled and scored on a Hernandez double. Feliciano followed with a two-run homer to make it 3-0. Ruben Gotay (Cincinnati) then tripled and scored on a Luis Matos single. Mayaguez did not advance a man past first base.
